and compliments throughout the day.
Dinuba’s highest seeded player, Ramirez, finished the tournament in third place after winning his first two matches (8-1, 8-5). After falling to Immanuel’s Josh Reimer in the quarterfinals Ramirez went on to beat Immanuel’s Karry Reinke in two straight sets (6-3, 6-1).
Carrion won his first match (8-2) against Exeter’s Alex Castro but then lost his second match to the No. 1 seeded player in the tournament, CVC’s Bryce Winterowd. In the consolation rounds, however, Carrion went on to win his next two matches, beating fellow teammate Sepulveda (8-4) and then CVC’s Henry Bishop (8-2).
In doubles play, Lowrey and Gonzalez, who came into the tournament as the No. 3 seeded team, received a bye in the first round and then defeated the Immanuel team in a close 8-6 match. After losing to the team from Kingsburg in the quarterfinals, the duo lost their opening match in the consolation round but then went on to beat the team out of Selma to take third place in the tournament.
In Central Section’s Division IV, Dinuba was last ranked as the No. 5 team in the Valley. League leader CVC, who finished the season undefeated, was ranked No. 3.
Area finals will be held May 11-12 at the Immanuel High School Sports Plex.

First the opening ceremonies on April 7 were rained out, with opening games postponed to the following week. Then, when games should have kicked off on April 12, a strong gust of wind knocked down a light pole on the south side of Roosevelt Park, delaying the openings games yet again.
Now, when the City of Dinuba Youth Baseball and Softball programs would normally have been preparing for mid-season and All Star games, the Parks and Community Services has been scrambling just to find locations to host the myriad of games that cannot be played at their usual location.
According to Dinuba’s Sports Coordinator Richard DeOcio, when professionals were called out to remedy the pole situation at the park it was discovered that there were other poles on location that had weak foundations and were also in need of being replaced. That project, according to DeOcio, could take weeks to complete.
In the meantime, games for the league’s baseball Rookie division have moved to KC Park where they will be sharing the field with Dinuba’s new Cal Ripken league. As for the

state finals, finished once again as the top runner in both the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles.
He finished the 110 in 15.58 seconds, and the 300 in 40.29 seconds. In addition, Martinez also placed second in both the 200-meters race, with a time of 22.98 seconds, and the long jump competition, with a jump of 20’02”.
As for the Emperors’ long distance runners, Dinuba’s Jonathan Padilla and Oscar Perez finished first and second respectively in the 3200 meters race. Padilla finished with a time of 9:57.71 on Friday while Perez finished in 10:04.81.
Dinuba also had three other top ten finishers in other long distance events. Junior Danny Araujo placed second in the 1600-meters race with a time of 4:38.51. He also placed sixth in the 800-meters race with a time of 2:10.32, right behind Dinuba High senior Leo Jimenez, who finished in fifth place with a time of 2:07.53. Junior Diego Estrada finished the event in tenth place with a time of 2:12.65.
And in field events Dinuba High senior Alex Sandoval, who is the fourth ranked shot putter in the Central Section, came away with his seventh first place finish. His throw of 50’ was more than four feet farther than second place shot putter out of Mt. Whitney.

Dinuba Majors League’s Anthony Pompa of the Braves pitched a 10-0 shutout in the city’s opening week of youth baseball/softball. Though behind schedule, the league finally got started last week with games at KC Park and Felix Delgado Park.
girls Rookies, as well as Majors divisions, those games have been moved to Felix Delgado Park, with the first of the league’s game taking place last Thursday. More games were played at Felix Delgado Park this week while the city finds a more permanent solution.
The biggest challenge has been finding fields for the city’s baseball Majors division. Currently, the city is seeking to acquire a movable mound that could be used at Felix Delgado
Park as well. As for now, the team has had to share the Cal Ripken field, and pitching mound, at KC Park.
Saturday, the Dinuba Majors Baseball division wrapped up the first week of their schedule with two games at KC Park.
In the opening game the Braves took on the Giants and jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. They then extended that lead to 9-0 in the fifth inning. Behind the arm of pitcher Anthony
Pompa, the Braves ran away with a 10-0 victory.
The day’s second game featured a more competitive matchup between the Athletics and Pirates. The Athletics won that game 5-4.
Currently, the only games played at Roosevelt Park are the T-ball division games, which are played in the east field of the park. City league games will resume tonight at KC Park, with the first game starting at 6 p.m.

Lichtenwaldt.
The team is now gearing up
for their biggest competition of the season, when they look to three-peat as Valley champions. Wednesday the Dinuba Emperor’s track team will be traveling to Exeter for the Division II championships and Lichtenwaldt is feeling good about his team’s chances.
“We’re ready,” he said. “Our kids have been competing at a very high level.”
According to Lichtenwaldt, that’s one of the benefits of competing in a tough league. It pushes the team to work harder.
“The CSL is very strong,” said Lichtenwaldt. “I wouldn’t be surprised to see us, Exeter and Kingsburg all in the top five in the division finals.”
Frosh/Soph takes 3rd
The future of Dinuba’s boys track team looks strong with the Emperors’ frosh/soph team taking third place at the Dinuba Invitational.
Dinuba High sophomore Devon Mendoza represents the Emperors speed on the track, taking second place in the 100- meter race with a time of 12.14 seconds, and also taking third place in the 200-meter race, with a time of 25.17.
In field competition, sophomore Estevan Diaz took second place in the shot put competition with a personal record throw of 42’06”. He also took third place in the discus event with a throw of 101’09”.
Dinuba freshman Gino Adaoag placed third in the triple jump event with a personal
record jump of 34’01”. And sophomore Cameron Amador placed fourth in the long jump with a jump of 17’03”.
Orosi’s top finishers
Cardinals junior Fernando Vargas set a personal record in the high jump event by clearing 5’07” to take fifth in the event.
And the boys 4x400 relay team, made up of Daniel Corpus, Claudio Vasquez, Nicholas Chavez and Chris Martinez, took fifth place in the event with a time of 3:46.86.
In girls competition, Orosi freshman Melanie Davila took third place in the 800-meter race. She also set a personal record in the 400-meter race with a time of 1:06.23, good enough for eighth place overall.

And it was none other than Marroquin who got the offense going, getting on base on an infield grounder and then coming home on a sacrifice grounder to give Orosi a 2-0 lead.
Going into the final inning with a 4-0 lead, Orosi elected to put in Mauricio Frausto to close out the game. It appeared the game would start to get away from the Cardinals when two of the first three batters were beamed. A Bears hit to Frausto then took a turn for the worse when his throw to second base sailed into centerfield, scoring a Summit runner with only one out in the inning.
But defense once again saved the game. An at’em ball to second base turned into a double play when Orosi’s
second baseman threw out a Bear’s runner at third.
With the win, the Cardinals improved their league record to 7-4, putting them in fourth place in the ESL and one game behind Summit.
McFarland is the league leader with an 8-0 record, as of Tuesday, followed by Orange Cove who went to 9-2 on Tuesday with a 16-0 win over Wonderful College Prep Academy.
Orosi will attempt to extend their win streak to five as they take on undefeated McFarland tomorrow afternoon. Tomorrow’s game begins at 4 p.m.
The Cardinals’ final regular season game will be on Tuesday, when they host Kings Christian. That game also begins at 4 p.m.
