Dinuba High School’s Academic Decathlon team
had a small team this year, but were still able to take home a record 38 medals, out of a possible 90 medals, at the event. The school also took home more than half the gold medals available, 16 out of 30.
“I’m very happy with the medals the students won,” Dinuba High’s Academic Decathlon coach Joseph Schuster said. “I’m so proud of my team. The last two years we took home 27 medals and this year we took home 38.”
Schuster said that two days before the competition three students dropped out, but the rest of the team didn’t give up.
“Every one of the students competing took home a medal and we won a medal in every single one of the 10 competitions,” Schuster said.
Schuster stated that if his team had the numbers they would have a shot at winning the overall award, but he is more happy with his students
winning medals.
The top Emperor was Andrew Mariano who
won six gold and two silver medals in Scholastic. His first place medals were in art, economics, interview, math, science and speech.
The second highest Emperor was Sydney Rojas. She won four gold, two silver and a bonze medal. Her four gold medals were in art, economics, language/literature and science.
