Sanger High’s Apache Closet/Angels of Hope was selected as a Hands Across the Valley Volunteer of the Year for 2018 in the Youth Service Club Volunteer category. And Sanger graduate Maritza Villegas, a former Apache Closet volunteer, was named a Volunteer of the Year in the College Volunteer category. The awards were to be handed out April 25 at the Clovis Veterans Memorial facility.

Sanger teams appear
to find success mostly in teamwork. And these Apaches don’t look much different. They’re learning to score and befuddle other teams.
At the close of the Fresno game, Jacquelyn Pantaleon, a sophomore, scored with 22 seconds remaining. And Lopez made another run at the opponents’ goal.
They didn’t give up.
And Melendez scored on some move that defied description earlier in the game. She called it a 360, and it involves a spin. She said she’s looking for their weaknesses and plans to exploit them.
Expect more of that from Melendez.
“We’re more sisters than teammates,” said Pearl Orozco, a sophomore. “We still have our fights. And resolving our issues together is what makes us a team.”
