Chamber honors Sanger's community service super stars

Every year the chamber of commerce honors special people who have invested time and effort to make Sanger an even better place to live. Some of the honorees at this year's awards banquet on April 20 had already headed home by the time the group photo op was announced. The special people in the photo above are, L-R, Educator of the Year Nancy Penny; Hall of Fame, Rene Gonzalez; Mother of the Year, Nancy Kacerek; Firefighter of the Year, Chris Waddle; Citizen of the Year, Rolinda Hernandez; Mr. and Mrs. Farmer, Norma and Douglas Hazelton; Police Officer of the Year, Abraham Ruiz; and Special Award, Matt Navo. Missing from the photo are: City of Sanger Employee of the Year, Javier "Jay" Acosta; Rotary Youth Award, Mathew Castillo; Recycler of the Year, Elim Pace Dementia Care Sanger; Gold Seal Award recipients, Les Schwab, David J. Pearson, Paul Welch, Kim Jones and Kaylee Wood; Golden Bell Chamber Scholarship recipients Desiree Jun Leija, Mauricio Lamas-Carlos and Gabriella Rose Ceja.

Little "Rocky" is this week's featured Pet of the Week.
Rocky is probably a pomeranian/chihuahua mix. He's about 3 years old and, in spite of his size, he would make a great watch dog. He likes to go on walks and he's the perfect size
to sit on your lap. He was picked up while wandering in the Hawley/6th neighborhood.
JoJo, Lucy, Lily and Buster are also still waiting to be ad- opted.

Adoption only requires spaying/neutering and bringing the rabies shot up to date. The only charge is to the veterinarian, Gregory Saiki DVM.
