With the game tied at 3-all, Dinuba went ahead 4-3 on an run-scoring single from Jordynn Acevedo to drive in Kayla Villareal. A one-out double by Alexa Garcia put runners on 2nd and 3rd. The Emperors’ next batter, Juliana Flores, hit a single to score Garcia and Dinuba kept the rally going as Kirsten Martinez followed with an RBI single.
Bullard scored a run in the bottom half of the inning and had a runner at 3rd with two outs, before Martinez closed the game on a groundout.
The Knights, who trailed 3-2 entering the sixth inning, had consecutive doubles from Jazmine Castenada and
Leilyn Alvarez. Bullard tied the game on an error as the Knights had runners at the corner. Martinez got Sarah Moite to line out to third baseman Faith Hernandez and the next batter also lined out. Dinuba avoided any further damage as Sariah Ayala hit a grounder to Garcia, who went to first baseman Flores for the third out.

This year’s Dinuba Invitational will feature 29 teams as many brace for the critical part of the season.
Coach Lucas Lichtenwaldt said there are a few standouts from the area.
“Some of the top teams include Bakersfield, East Bakersfield and Central Catholic has a pretty good team,” said Lichtenwaldt.
Selma’s DeAndra McDaniel is the top seed in the triple jump as the senior is No. 1 in the section with a mark of 47-10 1⁄2. McDaniel also is No. 3 in the long jump at 23 1⁄2, according to Lichtenwaldt.
San Joaquin Memorial’s Tobin Phillips is the top shot putter at the invitational as the junior is No. 5 in the section with a mark of 56-6.
Lichtenwaldt said the boys 4x400 meter relay team will have seven teams under 3:35.
“That should be a great race,” he said.
Dinuba’s Jonathan Padilla will run in the 1600 as the senior has the No. 1 seeded time of 4:35.59 and teammate Diego Estrada is No. 3 with a time of 4:42.
Bakersfield freshman Mallik Bolton has the best entry time in the 200 at 22.38, which ranks him No. 11 in the section. Bolton also has the No. 6 time in the 400 at 49.89.
The Bakersfield girls team will be the team to beat as the Drillers are led by Kynnedi McCall and freshman phenom Mia Bolton. McCall, a senior, has the top time in the section in the 400 (54.61) and is No. 2 in the 200 time at 24.96 and Bolton is No. 2 in the 100 (11.91). Both athletes are also members of the Drillers’ 4x400 relay team that is No. 3 in the section with a time of 4:00.05 and No. 4 in the 4x100 in 48.73.
Lichtenwaldt stated that the Emperors have two more weeks to hit their peek. The remaining meets for DHS include the Central Sequoia League Championships on Wednesday, May 1 followed by the Area Qualifier on May 8 at Tulare Western. The Grand Masters meet will be on May 18 at Buchanan.

The Dinuba High girls softball team dropped a 5-2 game to Paso Robles on last Tuesday afternoon to end the Easter Classic Softball on a rough note as the Emperors finished with a 1-3 record.
“We were running on fumes that game,” said coach Bryan Patterson.
In their opener against Clovis West, Dinuba led 5-1 heading into the third inning before the Golden Eagles rallied for a 6-5 win.
“We made some mistakes in the middle of the game,” Patterson said.

The Dinuba High girls softball team wrapped up the Easter Softball Classic with a 1-3 record as the Emperors look to rebound at Central Valley Christian this afternoon.

Dinuba High girls basketball point guard Kailey Lopez had quite a season for the Emperors. The freshman standout did a little bit of everything for the Emperors, who finished the season with an overall record of 16-13 and made the playoffs.
For her efforts, Lopez earned first- team Central Sequoia League honors.
Lopez averaged nine points per game and recorded 96 steals and 73 assists to lead the team in both categories. She also averaged three rebounds per game.
Yazmine Villareal-Harris was a 2nd team selection as the junior foward/ center averaged 7 points per game, just below her average from a season ago. Villareal-Harris was a force on the boards to lead the team with a career- high in rebounds (209) while averaging nearly two steals a game and was the team-leader in blocks with 31.
Player of the Year honors went to Maddy Reed of Kingsburg while Selma’s Rachel Vieira was CSL’s Offensive Player of the Year. Vieira’s teammate, Elena Lutherback, was the league’s Defensive Player of the Year while the Bears’ Paul Romig was Coach of the Year. Underclassman of the Year was Kendal Vander Tuig of Central Valley Christian. Rounding out the first-team were Kolbi Adams, Hanford West; Maddy Alves, Kingsburg; Clarissa Moreno, Selma and Jaycie Wilkinson of Exeter.
Magaña is a CSL first-teamer:
Josh Magaña made the CSL first-team as the junior averaged 13 points per game for the Emperors.
Magaña led the team in 3-pointers with 123.
Magaña closed out the season with a 22-point performance in a 80-56 setback to Mt. Shasta in the Northern Regional Division V title game. The Emperors had an incredible year recording the most wins in program history (27).
Senior forward Luke Rodriguez was on the CSL 2nd team. Rodriguez was the team’s leading score averaging 16 points per game. Rodriguez also led the Emperors in rebounds averaging eight a game and excelled on defense as he had a team-high 113 blocked shots to go along with 101 steals.

Orosi High will be one of 29 teams competing tomorrow. The Cardinals’ next meet will be on Wednesday at the All-Sierra Division Championships in Fowler.
