Fiesta Run/Walk goes virtual this year

Reedley’s Anthony Velarde scored his fourth goal of the sea- son, helping the Pitts- burgh Riverhounds collect their fourth straight victory; a 5-0 shutout of Hartford Athletic on Sept. 12 that clinched a berth in the United Soccer League playoffs for a third con- secutive season.
The second-year midfielder converted on a penalty kick in the 42nd minute, cap- ping off a three-goal first half for the River- hounds (10-3-1 through Sept. 19). Teammates Ryan James and Ropa- pa Mensah also added first half scores, and both finished with two goals on the night after converting in the sec- ond half. Velarde was replaced in the 64th

Signups are being ac- cepted for the fifth annu- al United Health Centers Foundation Golf Tourna- ment on Monday, Oct. 12, at Ridge Creek Golf Club in Dinuba.
Registration is at 10 a.m., followed by a shot- gun start at 11 a.m. All proceeds from the tour- nament go to benefit the UHC Foundation.

Runners sprinted along G Street in the girls 8-9 quarter mile race in 2019. There will be no live Fiesta Run/Walk races this fall because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but there will be virtual 2-mile and 5-mile runs featuring courses in Reedley, Fresno or Clovis. Runners also can choose their own course and distance. Runners can sign up, run or walk anytime from Oct. 10 to Oct. 31 and submit their time.

Registration is $20 per person and is open through Sunday, Sept. 27. Participants will receive long- sleeve T-shirts, which can be picked

Velarde came off
the bench in the 65th minute of the River- hounds’ 1-0 victory over Loudon United FC in Leesburg,Va. on Sept. 19. He didn’t post any shot attempts as Pitts- burgh collected its fifth consecutive victory.
For the season, Ve- larde is tied for with three teammates for second-high scoring on the team with five goals, trailing Men- sah’s total of six goals. Velarde’s five goals have come on only six shot attempts, and he also has collected two assists.
Pittsburgh closes out the regular season with Saturday home matches against Hart- ford Athletic on Sept. 26 and Philadelphia Union II on Oct. 3.
