seeded fourth in the Division 2 playoffs and hosted a first round match against Atascadero on Wednesday. Results of the match were unavailable at press time.
A win by the Emperors would earn them another home match tomorrow night at 6 p.m. against the winner of El Diamante/Frontier- Bakersfield. If Dinuba advances to the semifinals, they would face top seeded Tulare Western on Wednesday. The two teams met earlier in the season as the Mustangs prevailed, 3-1.
The Emperors entered the playoffs with an 18-5-1 overall and undefeated Central Sequoia League champions.
Coach Ramiro Rodriguez hopes the team can make a good run.
“We’re hoping to get into the final four, but you never know” Rodriguez said. “It’s a whole new season now.”
The other teams seeded ahead of the Emperors were Reedley and Sanger.
“I was hoping for a three seed, but it’s okay,” Rodriguez said. “We’re going to take it game- by-game.”
The Cardinals received a goal from Apodaca as they went on to defeat host Minarets, 1-0.
“Definitely all the factors played into it,” Vega said. “The travel time and it was super cold.”
Vega said the score didn’t reflect the team’s effort.
“We played well and maybe should’ve put more in the back of the net,” Vega said. “They were able to hold their own and their defense.”
Orosi boys advance to the second round: The Orosi High boys soccer team also made the Division 4 playoffs as a five seed putting away visiting No. 12 Yosemite late Tuesday night, 4-2.

The Dinuba girls soccer team may be limping into the playoffs, losing its last three matches of the season, but coach Claudia Diaz is looking forward to the team playing another match.
“We’re really excited,” Diaz said. “
The Emperors are 9-10- 1 overall and closed Central Sequoia League play with a 4-7-1 mark. DHS earned the seventh seed and will have their work cut out as they open the section Division 4 playoffs today at No. 2 Fowler. The Redcats enter the post season with a 22-3-1 mark and 11-0-1 in the East Sequoia League.
Diaz said her team has been focusing on getting out to a quicker start and shooting.
“We’ve been practicing on a few sets and shooting,” Diaz said. “I think it will be a good match.”
The winner of that match will face the winner of Exeter/ McLane on Tuesday.

After surrendering a first half goal, the Cardinals defense played well down the stretch eventually tying it on a goal by Davila.
“Fowler is always good competition. The girls and coaches weren’t upset,” Vega said.

runs in the fifth inning.
The Pirates’ Oscar Lemus went
the distance for the win. Morrelli pointed out that
pitching is always ahead of hitting early in the season.
“I think we needed to relax at the plate,” Morrelli said. “Being the first game of the season maybe got to us, but I thought Isaiah pitched well.”
Weather permitting, Dinuba was scheduled to play at Liberty before hitting the road to face Lemoore next Wednesday afternoon.
