Orosi Substation station commander position, Sheriff Boudreaux promoted Steve Sanchez III to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned him to the position vacated by Macias.
Sanchez said, “I will continue to do my best to improve the quality of life for the people in the area,”
Sanchez is a graduate of Kingsburg High. He was hired by the TCSO in 1996 as a Detention Services Officer at the Bob Wiley Detention Facility. His assignments since
have been as a Deputy I in the Transport Division, patrol, Gang Violence Suppression Unit, SWAT, Internal Affairs and most recently as the sergeant in charge of the County Apprehension Team Tracking Criminals in Hiding Unit.
He also authored and implemented “one of the first Civil Gang Injunctions in Tulare County” in Ivanhoe, a release by the TCSO said. He was named Officer of the Year by the Latino Peace Officers Association for his work.
personal to me.”
Ownership of the wall is
expected to be created through a foundation created by American Legion Post 19 to oversee maintenance and future upkeep.
While the wall has been paid, the committee still has plans to enhance it. The wall’s current base is a temporary setup. The next project will be a 24-inch- tall cement foundation for the wall to be placed on, along with an extended walkway.
“It’s a relief, I feel so good when I tell people it's been paid,” Castillo said. “We’re still doing fundraisers because there is another chapter of the wall. We want to beautify it, lift it up, do some landscaping, put some benches and make it look very, very nice. Our first concern was to pay the wall first, now we’ll look to beautify this landmark in Dinuba.”
Ibarra estimated that the costs would be about $10,000, though some have stepped forward to help donate to the project. A former resident of Cutler has offered to conduct the architectural work and two contractors have offered

The Kingsburg Sentinel, which was established on Feb. 20, 1947, consolidated with the Dinuba Sentinel on Aug. 28, 1951. A luncheon will follow, free for veterans. There is a suggested donation of $3 from other attendees - down from $10 when the committee previously was paying off the wall.
to donate their time, and possibly the materials, to complete the project.
Ibarra said, “The main thing, it wasn’t about our hard work, we did it because of the individuals on the wall. A lot of the veterans, they were our friends. The committee members that aren’t veterans, they have relatives on the wall. It was all about getting them the recognition they didn’t get.
“We didn’t have to go, but the majority of the people that did go, we went willingly. That’s the biggest thing, giving recognition. When we came back, we were on a guilt trip. People made us feel guilty. That was one of the reasons the committee came together. Things have changed for us where we no longer have that guilty feeling. We didn’t do anything wrong, we just happened to answer our country’s call and that’s what all those individuals on that wall, that’s what they did. But they didn’t get to see the end results. The wall is for them, it wasn’t about us.”
On Monday, the wall will host its annual Dedication
