El Monte Middle School student Gerve Ann Viloria was one of three students to give speeches. She was also honored with the Hope of America Award, presented by the Cutler-Orosi Kiwanis Club.

• A hit-and-run accident was reported in the area of Saginaw Way and Alta Avenue at 5:25 p.m. No injuries were reported.
• Two women were allegedly stealing lumber near Ridge Creek at 8:05 p.m.

• A vehicle battery was stolen and ignition damaged in the 1500 block of North Eaton Avenue at 9:10 a.m.

District Doings
• Alta Post 19 will host the annual Burning of Flags Ceremony today, June 14, at 7 p.m. at the Dinuba Memorial Hall. All unserviceable flags are burned at dusk on Flag Day each year.
• The Alta District Historical Society will host a Car Racing Enthusiast Event on June 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. The social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the event running from 6 to 8 p.m.
A panel of Alta District car racers will be on hand for a Q&A, along with videos, pictures and memorabilia. Special guests include David Biswell, Ron Cochran, Mickey George, Jon Koobation, Troy Regier, Al Surabian and Sam Surabian.
• The city of Dinuba's weekly Summer Night Lights and Farmers' Market at Entertainment Plaza will begin on Friday, June 15 and will continue weekly on June 29, July 13, July 20, July 27 and Aug. 3. A special Independence Day celebration will be held July 3 at Centennial Park. The Friday events will feature a local Farmer's Market with fresh fruits and vegetables from 6 to 9 p.m. and live music from 7 to 9 p.m., along with food vendors, games, prizes, a bounce house, raffles and more.
Obituaries
El Monte Middle School eighth graders were promoted to high school at the EMMS gym on June 6. The class was highlighted with 54 students promoted with honors, success in the girls' basketball team and in science fair. The class has already totaled more than $17,000 in awarded scholarships.

• A homeless person was reported for sleeping on a mattress in an alleyway in the 1000 block of North Villa Avenue at 9:20 p.m.

The Dinuba Sentinel was established on Feb. 11, 1909, then succeeding the Orosi Offer which was established on April 21, 1902, and on Jan. 15, 1917, the Dinuba Advocate. The latter, when established, absorbed The Traver Advocate, which was established Oct. 9, 1875. The Kingsburg Sentinel, which was established on Feb. 20, 1947, consolidated with the Dinuba Sentinel on Aug. 28, 1951. Reaffirmed as a legal publication under California statute and Tulare County Civil Code No. 19523 on April 2, 1928.
August 11, 1924 ~ May 13, 2018
Bert Alvin Hoffman, of Canyonville Oregon, died on Sunday, May 13 2018,
he was 93.
Bert was born on August 11, 1924 in Fresno, California. Son of George
Delbert and Florence Lillian (Wentworth) Hoffman. He was the youngest child of three. He attended Fresno Adventist Academy and went on to receive a degree in chemistry from Paci c Union College in Angwin, California in 1949 and Doctor of Medicine from Loma Linda University in 1954. He served his country in the Medical Corps with United States Army from 1944 to 1946 stationed in Hawaii and Japan.
Bert was a physician in the Dinuba/Visalia California area for over 40 years. During his time in private medical practice, Bert delivered over 2,000 babies and performed over 2,220 major surgeries. He served on the Corporate Board of Directors for Blue Shield of California, was a Diplomat to the National Board Medical Examiners, an Aviation Medical Examiner and a member of the American Academy of Family Practice. Bert also served in leadership positions as Vice President and President of both the Tulare County Foundation for Medical Care and Tulare County Medical Society and chaired the Tulare County Medical Association political action committee. Bert was a member of the American Medical Association, the California Medical Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Bert had a passion for healing, his family,  ying, golf, motorcycles and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. Bert also enjoyed travel and during his life he had the opportunity to see much of the world including Japan, Thailand, Cambodia, most of Europe, the Middle East, Canada, Mexico, Africa and much of the United States.
Bert is survived by his wife, Lana; daughters: Susan and Shari and her husband Steven; Sons: Gary and his wife Lynn, Stephen and his wife Gabriela; stepson Karl Blair and his wife Jill; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, George; mother, Florence; Son, Brian; Wives: Helen Claudine Hurley and Florence Ruth Wiebe; and his brothers: John & Merle.
A funeral service will be held at Reedley Cemetery in Reedley Ca. on Friday June 15 at 10am.

• An apartment was vandalized in the 1100 block of North Villa Avenue. It was reported at 9:40 a.m.
• A trailer was shot in the 500 block of North Villa Avenue. A report was made at 12:40 p.m.
• A cell phone was stolen in the 1300 block of East Park Way at 4:30 p.m.
Thursday, June 7
• An injury accident between two vehicles was reported in the
Way at 12:30 a.m.
• Vandalism was reported in
the 2200 block of East El Monte Way at 7:20 p.m.
• A two-year-old was reportedly “walking alone” in a parking lot in the 600 block of North Euclid Avenue at 8:10 p.m.
• A vehicle was burglarized in the 200 block of South J Street. It was reported at 9:20 p.m.
Friday, June 8
• A vehicle was stolen in the 500 block of East Kamm Avenue at 7:20 a.m.
• A home was burglarized in the 500 block of North Crawford Avenue at 8:25 a.m.
• An assault was reported in the 900 block of Jasmine Avenue at 5:25 p.m.
• A person passed out on the sidewalk with a beer in the area of Uruapan Way and Tulare Street at 7:55 p.m.
• A person wearing all black was reportedly carrying a machete while walking around the Wal- Mart parking lot at 10:50 p.m.
Jordan Sandoval
Jordan Sandoval, of Sultana, passed
away June 2, 2018 after eighteen long
years of battling cystic  brosis. He was
born in Visalia, California, the son of
Rick and Sandra Sandoval. He attended
Monson-Sultana School from kindergarten
to eighth grade, and Dinuba High School
for his freshman and sophomore years as
his health permitted him to at the time. Jordan was a young man passionate about the NBA sports team the San Antonio Spurs, where he had the opportunity to watch a game and meet the players through the Make a Wish Foundation. He also was a very dedicate NFL Raider fan. Some of his other interests and hobbies included riding quads, attending car shows and playing video games.
Because Jordan battled cystic  brosis for eighteen years, he was able to learn about his disease and was adamant on raising awareness in hopes of  nding a cure. He wanted to be the voice for so many children dealing with diseases without cures, and showed others what it meant to be strong even in dif cult times.
Jordan is survived by his parents Rick and Sandra Sandoval; his brothers Richard, Ricky and Jacob. He also leaves his Grandparents Silviano and Esperanza of Sultana and Lilly Bravo of Dinuba. He is also survived by several uncles, aunts and cousins.
Wanda Lee Marshall
1942 ~ 2018
Wanda Lee Marshall of Visalia, CA, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, at age 76 on
Saturday, June 2, 2018.
Wanda was born to Woodrow and Audrey Conn in Thorndale,
Texas on May 30, 1942. Wanda was the eldest of four children and grew up in Vidor, Texas.
Wanda met Russell Anthony Marshall, Jr at age 16 and they were married in 1962 at age 19.
Wanda and Russell had three daughters, Tamara, Sonya and Rhonda. The family moved to Dinuba, CA in 1973, where they pastored the Dinuba Pentecostal Church of God for 10 years. Russell and Wanda moved several times before settling in Visalia, CA in 2012.
Wanda was preceded in death by her father, Woodrow Conn and her sister Carolyn Armstrong.
Wanda is survived by her husband of 56 years, Russell, her 96-year-old mother, Audrey Conn, her siblings, Melba Sellers and Elton Conn, her daughters and their spouses, Tammy and Mike Mainord of Visalia, Sonya and Joseph Morgan of Dinuba and Rhonda and Nigel Stout of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren Lindsay (Erik) Geiger, Brianna (Josh) Diaz, Garrett (Taylor) Mainord, Sean Morgan, Theron Morgan, Katelyn Morgan, Chloe Stout, Aidan Stout, Ashton Stout, Atticus Stout and great grandchildren, Harrison and Warren Geiger.
Wanda was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Wanda’s life was held at the Salser & Dillard Funeral Chapel on Thursday June 7, 2018.

Jesse Rodriguez Luna
Jesse Rodriguez Luna, a resident of Beavercreek, Oregon, died June 5,2018.Hewas83.
He worked in human resource for civil rights.
A rosary will be held Friday, June 15, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cutler, followed
by celebration of funeral Mass at 10 a.m., also at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will take place at Smith Mountain Cemetery.
Surviving family members include his spouse, three sons, one daughter, 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Sterling and Smith Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
