Marilyn was born in Selma, California on August 28, 1934, to Samuel Wallace Turk and Bernadine Peterson Turk. She grew up in Kingsburg where she was active in the Methodist church and attended Kingsburg High. It was there she met her lifelong sweetheart Ron Hanson. They married in 1953 prior to Ron going into the Navy. They lived in Virginia and Bakersfield before settling in Reedley to raise their family.
Marilyn was primarily a wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, but she also made time for many other organizations and interests outside of the home. She was very active at Christ Lutheran Church and the Kings River Quilter’s Guild where she served in many positions.
She loved to travel and loved hiking all over the Sierras. In 1983, they purchased a cabin in Shaver. This was one of her favorite vacation spots, where she enjoyed entertaining her family and friends. She had a true passion for quilting and she spent many hours making beautiful quilts, which were her gift of love. Everyone said when they sat under one of her quilts they were wrapped in her love.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Marjorie, and her son David. She is survived by her husband Ron of 67 years, her son Gary and his wife Anita, David’s wife Karen, her daughter Jennifer and her husband Steve Lewis.
