From April 22 to April 25 the Dinuba FFA Chapter took a trip to Anaheim for the 90th annual California FFA State Leadership Conference.
The Dinuba FFA Chapter took 19 members to the conference. This was the first year that California FFA hosted State Conference at the Anaheim Convention Center, as for the past 89 years, the conference has been held at the Fresno Convention Center making this a new experience for everybody.
There were more than 7,000 members, advisors, and guest present at this convention from over 300 different chapters across California. This convention encouraged students to develop personal and team leadership skills, discover agricultural careers, make new friends, and develop some great ideas to bring back to their chapter. The convention also highlighted students' accomplishments in public speaking events, proficiency awards, and special recognitions. At this conference members also had the great
opportunity to experience Disney's California Adventure at a private event for California FFA members only.
Every FFA chapter in California has the opportunity to select two students to be voting delegates. Delegates are responsible to attend meetings, to be a part of committees to improve different program aspects, as well as having the privilege to vote for the 2018- 2019 State FFA Officers. The two delegates that were chosen to represent the Dinuba chapter were sophomores Itzel Carbajal and Marlyn Carbajal.
Jose Gutierrez, the Dinuba FFA Vice President, applied, and was accepted, to be a part of the Courtesy Corp. As a member of the Courtesy Corp, Gutierrez was able to assist on the first day of convention, helping chapters check in for the convention. On the fourth, and last, day of the convention Jose Gutierrez was recognized by walking across the stage with other Courtesy Corp members to be recognized for their hard work and dedication for helping out during the convention.
Throughout these four days students were able to listen
to two keynote speakers. The first keynote speaker was Jesse LeBeau, who encouraged students to do something in their life that drives them to excel while sharing his life experiences that led him to follow his dreams. The second keynote speaker was Brett Culp, who encouraged members to realize their greatest personal, and business potential, with the belief that our efforts can make an impact. The California FFA also had the opportunity to listen to a speech given by National FFA President Breanna Holbert, who hails from California. Breanna talked about her experiences within the FFA and the impact it had on her life and where she is today representing FFA at the national level.
Dinuba FFA members that attended this conference look forward to sharing with their chapter the leadership skills and ideas that they have learned from attending the 90th annual California FFA State Leadership Conference. Dinuba FFA will attend next year's California FFA State Leadership Conference, which will be held in Anaheim again from April 24-29, 2019.

An investigation is ongoing, which is being handled by the Visalia Police Department. Standard protocol for an officer-involved shooting is for an outside agency to take over the investigation. Their findings will then be reviewed by the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office.
Boudreaux said, “The officers acted appropriately. I completely support our officers in their actions, I’m confident that they used the force that was necessary in this situation.” An autopsy for the suspect is scheduled for next week.

When deputies arrived on the scene, the suspect's mother reportedly told deputies that her son was acting erratically and that he was not on his medication, as described by Boudreaux. There was no indication that the suspect had any weapons.
Boudreaux said, “The mother said she felt threatened and if he was not taken away that she felt her life was going to be in danger and her safety would be in danger.”
Boudreaux explained that Trujillo had a “long history with law enforcement, dating back to 2003,” which included charges of drug violations, terrorist threats and service
