The Blessing of the Bikes and Cars event continues to grow since moving to Dinuba.
First, the event was extended from motorcycles to include car enthusiasts as well. Now, the event is moving from Downtown Dinuba to Rose Ann Vuich Park.
Event organizer Joe De Luna said, “The reason for the relocation is that when we had the two blocks blocked off on the street, the stage was on the west side of the street and the
bikes and the cars ended up being way far apart. It kind of overgrew. We wanted to ask the city of Dinuba if we could have it at the park where they have the amphitheater so we could tighten it up so people could hear what is coming from the stage.”
The event was also moved to a new date this year.
De Luna said, “It’s always been on the first weekend of April. We moved it to Mother’s Day weekend, which turned out to be a good thing because it rained.”
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the
event will feature motorcycles and cars on display, a wide variety of music, food vendors and more.
However, the reason for the event starts with prayer for motorcycle riders over the next year. This year, the event is held in memory of five riders who recently passed away.
“We pray for the families on this day and we also pray for the upcoming riding season,” De Luna said. “That’s what it’s all about. We pray over individuals, over their petitions, over their family, over their kids - just for their safety and that God will
protect them.”
The entertainment lineup
will include hip-hop artist MC Blvd, Martin Cantu - former lead singer of the band Malo, guest speaker Lisa Moreno, old- school funk band 12th Tribute, Tex-Mex band Rio Jordan and blues and rock and roll performer Jill Shankles.
De Luna said, “It’s going to be a good day of music, food and vendors. I’d like to invite everybody - individuals, motorcycle enthusiast, car enthusiasts and the general public who would just like to come out and check it out.”

Extension of six subdivision maps may aid funding for new DHS campus
By Jackson Moore News@thedinubasentinel.com
An item presented to the city of Dinuba Planning Commission, and next city council, is expected to help Dinuba Unified School District acquire more funding for the new Dinuba High School location.
The commission reviewed a sweeping one-year approval for six tentative subdivision maps that are due to expire in 2018. All six were originally approved in 2006-07, but extended by city and state extensions. They are also

Samuel Stan Salinas, 41, of Dinuba, was booked May 3 on suspicion of inflicting corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant, a felony.
The suspect was arrested in the 1400 block of East Park Way and transferred to county jail.
• Juan Rodriguez Magdaleno, 52, of Dinuba, was booked April 30 on suspicion of annoying calls to 911 and disorderly conduct under the influence of drugs, both misdemeanors.

each eligible for additional one- year extensions going forward.
The developments represent 633 potential new housing lots in Dinuba, including Laurabrook, Buratovich Estates, Terrace Estates, Vineyard Estates, Eagle Meadows and Quail Run Estate South. The progress of the developments ranges from already moving dirt to no visible progress at all.
During a public hearing, Peggy Garispe of DUSD told the commission, “It is important for the school district because it takes a long time to build schools, as you all know. Having these tentative maps
is an indication that there will be future growth within the district. That growth will bring students into Dinuba Unified. We are currently in the process of submitting an application to the state for funding... and these tentative maps help our eligibility in the actual funding we will receive for that school.”
The new high school campus, southwest of the intersection of Alta and Kamm avenues, will be funded by state money. Because the the district falls under financial hardship, Dinuba residents will not be on the hook for any of the costs.
Garispe said, “We are
looking right now in the area of qualifying for somewhere between $68 and $75 million, so obviously that’s very important for us.”
Also during the public hearing, several concerned homeowners near one of the housing projects voiced concerns about the development - Quail Run Estate South, planned for undeveloped land between Road 72 and Road 70, north of El Monte Way. The commission said the concerns would be forwarded to council.
The planning commission voted unanimously to recommend that the Dinuba City Council approve the item.
