DHS Girls Water Polo
Dinuba water polo season wraps up
“So they get a taste of what it’s like playing outside of the Valley and other athletes,” he added.
On senior night against Kingsburg, the visiting Vikings posted a 10-2 win as the Emperors’ only goals were by senior Clarissa Munoz and Hernandez.
On October 16 in their rivalry game against Selma, the Bears came out on top with a 12-2 win.
“Selma had a couple of fast breaks, and momentum was all on their sides from there on out,” Hernandez stated.
Dinuba had entered the match with an 11-8 win over Hanford West on October 11. The Emperors blanked the Huskies in the fourth period to secure the victory.
“The girls were communicating and all on the same page with each other,” Hernandez said.
On October 9, DHS fell behind early in the first half 9-2 but played much better in the second half in a 14-8 loss.
The Dinuba High girls water polo team wrapped up their season with a 6-19 overall record. The Emperors will return several key players next season, according to coach Sergio Hernandez.

Dinuba High girls water polo coach Sergio Hernandez made a few changes late in the season and the Emperors seemed to gain some confidence.
Despite losing 14-2 in their last match of the season, Hernandez noted it was a fun year for the seniors and next year’s squad will have players with plenty of playing experience.
“Next season, I’ll look to have Serenity Ramirez and Vanessa Hernandez,” he said. “They will be our more experienced players with a group of sophomores that are coming up to varsity next season.”
Hernandez noted that the plan over the summer is to take underclassman to a camp as well as play in tournaments outside of the area next season.

DHS continued the onslaught in the third set jumping out to a 9-3 lead and the Mustangs could never pull within eight points.
In the fourth set, the Emperors pulled away from a 14-12 advantage with an 8-2 run and never looked back.
Dinuba opened the playoffs with a 25-14, 21-25, 25-20, 25-18 win over Pioneer Valley of Santa Maria last Thursday.
After leading from wire-to- wire in the opening set, Pioneer Valley gained some momentum in the second set increasing a 13-10 lead to 21-12. The Emperors did make a run closing the gap to 24-21.
The Emperors got out of the gates quickly in the third set with leads of 6-0 and 13-7, PV started to crawl back into the set as DHS struggled a bit on offense with a few hitting errors and their lead
shrank to 16-14. Then the tables turned as the Emperors went on a 7-2 run led by consecutive kills by Garcia for a 23-16 lead. Garcia’s kill of an attempted block by Morgan Krause and a service ace by Gonzalez closed the set.
In the final set, Dinuba held a 18-17 advantage before closing out the match with a 7-1 run capped off by a kill from touching off a celebration on the Emperors court.
Allyson Garcia led the team with 14 kills to go along with 36 digs. Alexa Garcia added 13 kills and 41 digs, while Martinez had 12 kills.
Kayla Villareal led the team in digs with 39 and teammate Bethany Gonzalez ended the match with 32.
Kaily Manning had 38 assists and 15 digs.

same of the bracket as Orosi. A win by both teams sets up a rematch from last week’s game.
OHS had a potential game winning drive thwarted by an interception late in the game. The Cardinals did receive the ball with less than 10 seconds remaining inside their 22-yard line but time expired.
Down 13-10 entering the third quarter and without the services of leading rusher Jerry Huerta, Orosi’s defense stepped up forcing an OCHS punt in the early moments of the second half. With the ball at the 33-yard line, Orosi mounted an 11 play, 67-yard drive as quarterback Evan Lara ran for a nine-yard touchdown and a successful PAT by Mauricio Fausto put the Cardinals ahead 17-13.
The Titans pieced together a drive that started at the 40-yard line driving to the Cardinals’ 22-yard line when defensive back Chris Huerta intercepted a pass from OCHS quarterback Zach Ramirez returning it to the 36-yard line.
The Cardinals began the fourth quarter facing a fourth-and-16 as coach White rolled the dice going for a first but came up short and the Titans took over at their 36. Orange Cove took the lead on a

“She has set a goal to make it,” Ramales said.
Rodriguez as well as other members of the Orosi High cross country team had one more
run pass option play as Ramirez threw a quick screen to running back Mario Reynosa, who broke free for a 37-yard TD with 10:14 remaining.
With possession at the 14-yard line, Orosi started to move the ball on the Titans defense that included a pass interference penalty that put the ball near midfield and a 21-yard run by running back Ismael Alberto. The Cardinals then faced a fourth-and-4 at the Titans 22-yard line, when Lara connected on a short pass play to C. Huerta for a first down at the 17. Orosi was dealt a blow as they were penalized 15 yards on an illegal participation call at the tail end of a rushing play. That call loomed large, as Lara had a pass attempt to Rodriguez tipped by an OCHS defender and Titans’ outside linebacker Jose Vargas intercepted it at the 5-yard line.
Orange Cove struck first in the first quarter when Reynosa scampered 11 yards for a 7-0 lead

Orosi answered as Lara
connected on a 20-yard scoring pass play to Aidan Rodriguez capping off an 11 play, 80-yard drive.
The Cardinals forced a Titans turnover as Andrew Archiga recovered a Reynoso fumble at the Titans 40-yard line and turned into points on a 19-yard field goal by Fausto for a 10-7 lead. On the ensuing kickoff, Alex Saucedo returned it 93 yards for a touchdown but the ensuing PAT was blocked.
Perez led the Cardinals ground game with 93 yards on 15 carries. Despite missing most of the second half, J. Huerta still managed to gain 85 yards on 19 carries. Lara was 10 of 17 for 114 yards and two interceptions and Aidan Rodriguez finished with eight catches for 107 yards and a score.
