Police to conduct sobriety checkpoint in Reedley on Dec. 21
Staff Report
The Reedley Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the Reedley area on Friday, Dec. 21.
This detail focuses on impaired drivers who are under the influ-
ence of alcohol and/or drugs while operating a motor vehicle, accord- ing to Reedley police Sgt. Johna- thon Cates.
“The Reedley Police Depart- ment will continue to take an ag- gressive approach and use any re- sources available in removing this
threat of drunk driving from our city,” Cates said.
The checkpoint will run for ap- proximately eight hours, and allied agencies have been invited to assist the Reedley Police Department. A DUI sobriety checkpoint was held in the Sanger area on Dec. 15.
“The objective in these satu- rations is to get impaired drivers off our roadways and save lives, “ Cates said. “The Reedley Police De- partment, as well as other agencies in the state, has seen a dramatic in- crease in drunk driving.”
Joe Garza, Reedley police chief,
said the department will continue its aggressive efforts to combat and curtail impaired drivers on lo- cal roadways. Garza said the DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols will continue in an effort to make commutes safer for the traveling public.
