“At this point only a small group of people know that the Armory is being put up for sale after the first of the year,” she said. “So I believe that taking our problem to the public, via this forum, is the way to raise awareness and explain the consequences that losing the Armory will have not just for the veter- an community but the com- munity of Reedley itself.”
Lusk said it’s hoped that someone could come up with the solution or, more impor- tantly, the money that would allow Reedley or veterans to retain the Armory building and recreate it into a Vet-

erans Memorial Building. Losing the site would make Reedley one of the few cities in Fresno country not to have a base site where veterans “can gather to hold events, promote patriotism and to advocate for service men and women and veterans.”
Lusk suggested combin- ing her family’s organization —theCPTJoeF.LuskIIMe- morial Foundation — with the Reedley Area Veterans and American Legion to work to- gether along with community members in an effort to bring a Veterans Memorial Build- ing to the city.
“Imagine all of us, the veteran community and the wider community of Reedley, working together to create a place where veterans are welcome and where they can participate in a variety of ac-

tivities that benefit them and the community,” she said.
Lusk said that Reedley has an “unexpected oppor- tunity” to bring groups of veterans advocates together with the belief that support- ing veterans is critical to the welfare of the community.
“If we’re looking for a reason to keep our Armory in the hands of veterans, then this is it,” she said.
Lusk offered suggestions that groups working together can try to achieve by creat- ing a Veterans Memorial Building:

Staff Report
Gunfire at an apartment complex parking lot in north Reedley on Dec. 14 resulted in a man suffering a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the arm.
Reedley police received an emergency call about 8 p.m. reporting that a man had shot in the complex’s parking lot in the 1400 block of East Cypress Avenue. Responding officers administered first aid to the man, who later was transported to Community
Regional Medical Center in Fresno.
Police canvassed the surrounding area looking for witnesses, according to Reedley police Sgt. Bryan Pelayo. Evidence collected at the scene was turned over to RPD’s Detec-
tive Unit.
Pelayo said the shooting is in the early
stages of investigation and no other details are available at this time. Anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or have infor- mation is asked to call the Reedley Police Department at 637-4250.
Three businesses burglarized in one-week period
Staff Report
Reedley police respond- ed to three different com- mercial burglaries within a week’s period starting on Dec. 8.
The first break-in oc- curred at the Napa Auto Parts store in the 1000 block of G Street at about 7:30 a.m. According to police Sgt. Bryan Pelayo, sometime overnight a thief or thieves broke in through the back entry door and took about $110 that remained in a cash drawer. There also was dam- age to the back door.
Another vehicle parts store, Auto Zone on East Manning Avenue, was bur- glarized during business hours on Dec. 9 when a socket set valued at about $35 was shoplifted from the store. Police later arrested 25-year-old John Rene Perez of Reedley on suspicion of misdemeanor petty theft and drug possession.
The final burglary oc- curred shortly before 3:30 a.m. Dec. 14 at the 7-Elev- en convenience store on I Street. According to Pelayo, an unidentified woman forced open a freezer door and grabbed a 12-pack of beer before fleeing the store on foot. She was described as 5 feet, 190 pounds with blonde hair.
