Five injured in two alcohol-related crashes in Tulare County
MVT Staff Report
Three people suf- fered major injuries — and five were injured in total – from a pair of alcohol-related crashes in rural Tulare County on April 10.
The first, a single- vehicle crash on Avenue 416 (East El Monte Way) near Road 96 between Dinuba and Tulare, oc- curred shortly after 3:30
a.m. when 41-year-old Juan Sandoval of Dinuba drifted off the roadway and crashed into a pow- er pole. The California Highway Patrol report said Sandoval was driv- ing a 2006 Nissan west on East El Monte Way toward Dinuba while intoxicated, and after hitting the power then struck several trees be- fore coming to rest on its wheels.
Sandoval was extri- cated from the Nissan by fire personnel, and trans- ported by air ambulance to Community Regional Medical Center in Fres- no with major injuries, according to the CHP. He faces DUI charges from Tulare County law enforcement.
The second crash oc- curred at about 5 p.m. on Highway 201 (Road 128), north of Avenue
392 south of Cutler. The CHP reported that Visa- lia resident Emiliano Ce- ballos, 23, was driving south on 201 in a 2014 Toyota Corolla when he drifted into oncom- ing traffic and clipped a northbound Chevro- let Silverado driven by 29-year-old Vanessa Ayala of Selma. Ceballos and the Toyota continued south and struck head-on with a Ford Expedition,
heading north right be- hind the Silverado.
Ceballos was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fres- no with major injuries while a 9-year-old girl from Orosi, a passenger in the Ford, was trans- ported by ambulance to Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia with major injuries. The CHP
report said Ceballas was arrested, and that alcohol is believed to be the pri- mary cause of the crash.
The driver of the Ford, 33-year-old Anto- nia Santos of Orosi, also was taken to Kaweah Delta with minor inju- ries. Ayala was treated at Adventist Health Hos- pital in Hanford for mi- nor injuries.
