Class of 2022 promoted from WIS to Dinuba High

The proud parents and family members attending the 2018 Washington Intermediate School Promotion Ceremony traded out the typical hats, fans and sunglasses for jackets and umbrellas on a rare dreary May morning in Dinuba.
Although the weather likely wasn’t what the WIS students anticipated at their promotion ceremony, the big day finally came.
“The day that you’ve been waiting for is here - your eighth grade promotion,” WIS Principal Jonathan Torres told the outgoing students. “You’ve made it to this significant milestone. After today, a new

Sunday, May 27
• A vehicle fire was reportedly threatening a structure in the 6500 block of Avenue 416 at 2:50 a.m.
• A theft report was made in the 400 block of Wayside Drive at 9:05 a.m.
• A person reportedly broke items at a location in the 400 block of South M Street at 2:05 p.m.
• Two people were reportedly fighting in the 1500 block of West Sierra Way at 6:10 p.m.
Monday, May 28
• A vehicle reportedly crashed into a power pole in the 43100 block of Road 80 at 5:45 a.m., causing a power outage.
Correction
Last week's Sentinel incorrectly listed the burial location as Smith Mountain Cemetery in an obituary for James Edward Wilson. Burial took place at Reedley Cemetery District - A revised obituary is listed in this week's Sentinel. The Sentinel is sorry for the error.

The Dinuba Sentinel was established on Feb. 11, 1909, then succeeding the Orosi Offer which was established on April 21, 1902, and on Jan. 15, 1917, the Dinuba Advocate. The latter, when established, absorbed The Traver Advocate, which was established Oct. 9, 1875. The Kingsburg Sentinel, which was established on Feb. 20, 1947, consolidated with the Dinuba Sentinel on Aug. 28, 1951. Reaffirmed as a legal publication under California statute and Tulare County Civil Code No. 19523 on April 2, 1928.

The promotion festivities also included a welcome by Dinuba Unified School District Superintendent Joe Hernandez, a performance by the WIS Advanced Choir and WIS Thunderbird Drumline
Dinuba Mayor Scott Harness, and speeches from student speakers Alexis Martinez, Monserrat Mendoza and Emily Rico.
After receiving certificates that identified the students as the “Dinuba High School Class of 2022,” they were then welcomed by their future principal, Mike Roberts.
Roberts told the soon-to-be Emperors, “One of the biggest things you’ve probably heard is getting connected. I tell that to students all the time when they come onto campus. There’s clubs, sports, classes, activities - there’s lots of things. The more you get connected, the more you’re a part of the Dinuba High School family. So I encourage you to find those

James Edward Wilson, a resident of Reedley, died May 16, 2018. He was 68.
He was a forklift driver.
Services have been held. Burial took place at Reedley Cemetery District.
Surviving family members include his spouse, two daughters, one brother and two sisters, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
