Orosi graduations next week
Sentinel staff report
Cutler-Orosi Joint Unified School District will be hosting three graduation ceremonies next week.
The first ceremony will be held on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. as the district holds their Alternative Education Graduation Ceremony. The event will be held at Orosi High School.
Then on Wednesday, the district will be hosting their Eighth Grade Promotion Ceremony at the Orosi High School Gym. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
But the biggest event will be held on Thursday when the district has its Orosi High School Graduation Ceremony. Traditionally, the event has been held on Ed Coats Field at Orosi High’s George Millhorn Stadium. But due to the ongoing construction of a new stadium, the graduation ceremony will be held on the junior varsity field at Orosi High School, which is on the north end of the campus.
To accommodate for the ceremony, the district will bring in a temporary stage that will be placed on the west side of the field. For seating, the district has rented 3,000 chairs for the event and will also be using two large display monitors to provide all attendees a sufficient view.
The high school graduation is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

be etched in my heart and the hearts of countless volunteers who made this event happen.”
Through the process of putting the event together, Baronian said she learned something about the anatomy of the heart of a soldier.
“Whether past, present or future, the anatomy of this heart is the same,” said Baronian. “This is a sacrificial heart that has served his or her country without any thought of gender, race, religion, political affiliation, or economic status of those they are fighting for.
“This is a heart that understands hard work, dedication and persistence, no matter what the cost. This is a heart that would be willing to face danger head on just to protect complete strangers. This is the heart, that regardless of their own opinion, would lay down their life to fulfill the mission that they’ve been called to and to defend the freedoms that are embedded in the true meaning of America, land of the free because of the brave.”
Madrid himself, along with a vanload of about 12 other local Vietnam Veterans, attended the event. Also attending the event was Jose Martinez, a freelance photographer who stopped by to capture some of the moments.
Upon reviewing the photos on his computer, Martinez came across a photo that stood out and spoke to him.
It was a photo of Virginia Moreno and her daughter Diane Garcia. The pair had attended the event with a photo of Santos Moreno, Virginia’s late husband and father of Diane.
Arrests
Martinez put the photo on print and put it in a frame because it seemed to convey a strong message to him. The picture was a quick snap, a moment among many fond ones that day, but it was the image within the image that spoke to Martinez.
In the picture are Virginia and Diane, holding a framed photo of her late father. The picture of Santos is of him in the military, a portrait shot of him looking skyward with a smile on his face.
Said Martinez of the photo, “To me the photo said ‘Thank you.’”
Feeling pressed to find the people in the photo and present it to them, Martinez contacted Madrid and the research began. As is turned out, Moreno, who passed in 2015, is buried at Smith Mountain Cemetery, in the same northeast lawn where Monday’s service was held.
Present at the service were Virginia and her daughters, hearing the story from Martinez before the photo was presented to them.
Also speaking at the event were Dinuba Mayor Scott Harness, and Lincoln School students from Greg Olsen’s sixth grade class. Bethany Moss and Jaden Godoy read a short essay and poem on meaning of Memorial Day.
And Miss Dinuba Alyssa Leal did an interpretive dance to the song “Coming Home,” and dedicated it to all the veterans who have either come back home to the United State or who have gone home to a better place.
The suspect allegedly ignored lights and sirens and “committed several traffic violations” while successfully evading police officers. Two days later, the suspect was identified by Dinuba Police and arrested after the suspect attempted to flee on foot.
He was arrested in the 600 block of West North Way.
