The United Methodist Women of Reedley and Reedley First Unit- ed Methodist Church is hosting ap- pearances this weekend featuring the Rev. Sharon Delgado, an or- dained United Methodist minister and founder of Earth Justice Min- istries.
Delgado will be at a meeting from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26. at the church, located on the corner of 11th and E streets
in Reedley. Delgado will offer a mini-workshop titled “Go Green: A Faith Response to Global Climate Change.”
According to Delgado, climate change is an “unintended conse- quence” of a global system that she said produces vast wealth and leaves poverty, inequity, conflict, and environmental devastation in its wake.
“A warming climate will impact all the ministries of our church and creation itself, especially among
those who are most vulnerable, including today’s children and future genera- tions,” Delgado said.
The free
workshop will
explore the re-
alities of climate
change, point in the direction of climate justice, and suggest actions that local units of United Method-
ist Women and others can take to help change the system that they believe is causing climate change. Her 2017 book “Love in a Time of Climate Change” will be available for purchase at the workshop.
On Sunday, Jan. 27, Delgado will preach at the church’s regular Sunday service at 9 a.m.
Delgado has been advocating for peace, justice, and the environ- ment for more than 35 years. She speaks before spiritual communi- ties and secular audiences on issues
related to peacemaking, climate change and social and environmen- tal justice.
Delgado has had many articles published on these themes and is a regular contributor to United Meth- odist Women’s Response Magazine. An updated Second Edition of her first book, called “Shaking the Gates of Hell: Faith-Led Resistance to Corporate Globalization,” will be released later this year.
The public is invited to both events.
