Cardinals drop a pair of WSL games

Orosi High’s baseball team dropped a West Sequoia League game at Caruthers on April 5, 16-4.
The Blue Raiders scored 10 runs in the first inning as they improved to 10-7 overall and 5-2 in league while the Cardinals are winless in league play and 2-10-1 this season.
The Cardinals dropped a tough 3-2 game on March 26 against Orange Cove in 11 innings. Orosi led 1-0 before the Titans

In a Central Sequoia League tri-meet against Immanuel and Kingsburg on April 3 at Kingsburg, Brian Ortuno- Campbell won the 100 in 12.09 and the long jump at 19-7 and Natalie Duran doubled up in the hurdles to lead the Emperors. Duran had times of 19.69 in the 110 and 53.64 in the 300.

Ezequiel Zapien ran the leadoff leg while Rafael Molina was the third leg and Aaron De la Cruz was the anchor. De la Cruz also finished 6th in the long jump with a mark of 19-feet-2 inches. Rodriguez also earned a top-10 finish in the 400 as he was timed in 54.83 for eighth place.
Victoria Trevino turned in not one but two personal bests as she was fifth in the 110 hurdles in 19.16 and in the triple jump with a mark of 30-10. She was also ninth in the long jump with a

Cardinals softball team swept: The Orosi High softball team also dropped a pair of WSL games as the Cardinals are 1-4 in league and 1-9 overall. Orosi lost to Caruthers, 12-2, and to Orange Cove, 7-0.
Both teams were scheduled to play at Minarets on Tuesday. Scores were unavailable at press time.

The Dinuba Parks and Recreation held its opening ceremonies on Saturday at Roosevelt Park. The ceremonies started with
the singing of the national around the field. They were anthem by Miss Dinuba introduced to spectators
Audrey Menard and the first pitch.
Some 100 boys and girls making up teams along with coaches, managers and league officials, lined up
attending the opening ceremonies.
Games were played on Saturday but scores were not taken. The official games got underway on Monday.

Swimmers do well at Sunnyside

Dinuba High’s girls swim team is loaded with underclassman and this past weekend the Emperors had all the swimmers competing at the junior varsity level. Dinuba finished second with 129 points behind Exeter (204) in the JV girls team standings at the Sunnyside Sprints.
Alex Lacy won the 25-yard butterfly in a time of 13.82 while teammate’s Kylee Curtis and Angelina Arreola were second and third with times of 14.28
and 14.29. Lacy had also placed 2nd in the 50 fly in 32.40 while Arreola (13.33) and Vanessa Hernandez (13.41) were third and fourth in the 25 free.
Mikenna Curtis captured the 25-yard breaststroke with a time of 16.74 and earlier in the meet was second in the 50-yard breaststroke in 37.22. Anissa Rodriguez took third in the 50 free in 29.58.
In a Central Sequoia League duel meet against Central Valley Christian on April 4, the Emperors relay team of V. Hernandez, Curtis, Arreola and
Lacy posted a six second win in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:13.20.
Lacy went on to win the 100 butterfly in 1:15.45. Curtis won the 100 breaststroke in 1:25.41 and was first in the 100 free in 1:04.75 while V. Hernandez was 2nd in 1:06.51, just .02 ahead of teammate A. Rodriguez.
Ayana Lopez scored a win in the 200 free as she posted a time of 2:36.22.
Michael Vassylenko took 2nd in the 500 free in 6:08.16 and in the 100 breast with a time of 1:19.28.
Mateo Plascencia was 2nd in the 200 free in 2:27.12 and Bryce Bale also was 2nd in the 200 IM in 2:39.83.
In the 100 free, Gannon Marroquin was third in a time of 1:08.15 and Bayle was fourth in 1:08.37.
The girls 400 free relay of Jazmine Hernandez, Leanne Nunez, Larissa Diaz and Jackie Resendez won the event in 5:30.37.
Dinuba traveled to face Exeter on Tuesday. Results of the meet will be in next week’s edition of the Sentinel.

Quevedo Memorial Walk Run will be held on April 27

The 5th Annual Quevedo Memorial Walk-Run for Education will take place at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 27 at La Esperanza Restaurant in Cutler.
Participants will finish at
El Monte School as proceeds from the event will go towards scholarships for Orosi High School.

DINUBA HIGH SCHOOL Track AND Field
Melanie Davila is named Athlete of the Week as the Orosi High sophomore had a solid performance at the Kings River Classic track and eld meet. Davila captured the 800 meters in a time of 2:37.75 and set a personal record in the 300 low hurdles with a time of 52.37.

The Dinuba Wrestling Club will be having signups for the upcoming Freestyle and Greco season in the Dinuba High wrestling room from 6 – 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Cost is $50 and will include your USA card. Athletes from the surrounding area are welcome to join.
Interested individuals will
need to bring a copy of your birth certificates as well. The club will be accepting ages 5 and up.
Practices are underway and will be every Tues. & Th. from 6 - 8 p.m. in the DHS wrestling room.
