Bases loaded walk lifts Emps
The top two softball teams in Division III met in a highly-anticipated matchup Tuesday as Dinuba hosted Selma and the game was as advertised as the Emperors won 8-7 in a key Central

The Dinuba High boys golf team hosted the Central Sequoia League mini tournament on Thursday, April 4 at Ridge Creek Golf Course.
The Emperors finished in fifth with a team score of 247. Dinuba was within striking distance of moving up two spots as the Emperors trailed Selma (244) and Exeter (243). Central Valley Christian cruised to a win with a score of 193 and Kingsburg was second with a score of 228.
Dinuba’s top-golfer, Ashton Maldonado, had a score of 41. Also shooting a 41 were CVC’s Logan Jacobi and Selma’s Chance Short.
The Emperors’ Johnny Angulo posted a score of 48 and rounding out the rest of the individual scores were Mark Baeza (50), Josh Veeder (51) and Anthony Rocco (57).
The Cavaliers were led by Oklahoma State-signee Brian Stark who shot a 32 and teammate Simon te Velde was three strokes behind with a 35. Kingsburg’s Josh Bennett had a score of 38.
In a CSL mini tournament held on March 28 at the Kings River Country Club in Kingsburg, the Emperors found themselves in fourth with a total score of 281.
CVC posted a score of 207 well ahead of Kingsburg, who was 2nd with a score of 228, and Exeter was 3rd with a score of 262.
Stark shot a low score of 34 and was followed by te Velde, who was five shots behind with a score of 39 and Jacobi (42).
Angulo and Maldonado led the team as they finished the day with a score of 52 apiece.
Rounding out the rest of the team scoring for the Emperors were Veeder (56), Baeza (60) and Montejano (61).
The rest of the team standings were Immanuel (283), Selma (303) and Hanford West (379).
Dinuba will be in action this afternoon at noon as the Emperors host another CSL mini at Ridge Creek.

seventh, Selma’s Genesis Rodriguez tied the game with a one-out, run-scoring single. Martinez managed to get the next two Bears batter to pop-out.

error and Alexa Garcia drew a walk to load the bases for Martinez.
Martinez had to battle throughout the game as Selma held a 5-1 lead heading into the second. The Emperors cut the lead to 5-2 on a solo home run from Felicity Morales.
After setting Selma down in order in the third, Dinuba tied the game at 5-all. Morales delivered a 2-run double and Faith Hernandez’s bloop single drove in another run.
The Emperors took a 7-5 lead in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double from Martinez.
Selma made another charge in the sixth as Dominique Trevino hit a one- out run-scoring triple. Trevino was then tagged out at the plate by Acevedo on a squeeze play. Martinez ended the inning getting Christiana Wallace on a pop-up.
Dinuba entered the game on the heels of a 4-3 loss on the road to Hanford West on April 5
Dinuba got out to a quick 3-0 lead after the first inning, but were held scoreless the remainder of the game. The Huskies scored two runs in the bottom of the second and tied the game at 3-all after the fourth inning.
Hanford West would go on to score the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
“We left 12 girls on base and that hurt us,” Patterson said. “We had so many chances to win the game.”

The Dinuba High baseball team pounded out 13 hits as the Emperors posted a 16-2 Central Sequoia League win against Hanford West on Friday evening.
Dinuba (7-9, 4-3) opened the game scoring four runs in the bottom half of the opening inning. Isaiah Ochoa started the game with a single and Josh Escobedo reached on an error to put runners on first and second. Corey Cosper also reached on an error by the
the first run of the game. With one out, Michael Gomez drove in Escobedo and Cosper with a triple. He would later score on a single from Justin Gonzalez for a 4-0.
Hanford West had a rally wiped out in the second inning as the Huskies had runners on first and second with no outs. Hanford West had a runner thrown out at the plate by Elijah Lozoya and another base runner caught stealing at third base.
In the bottom half of the inning, Dinuba had a two-out rally as Escobedo
Noah Cortez followed up with another triple to score Cosper, pushing the lead to 6-0. The Emperors tacked on five more runs in the third on RBI singles from Lozoya, Escobedo and Cortez.
In the fourth inning with one out, Jesse Ortega and Lozoya each hit singles and Ortega came home on an RBI single from Ochoa. Cortez and Gomez would each drive in a run as DHS pushed across another run.
Hanford West eventually would score a pair of runs in the top of the fifth as the Emperors scored their final run of

hits and three RBI’s while Gomez also drove in 3 runs on two hits while Lozoya had 2 RBI’s and a pair of hits.
On Wednesday April 3 against Liberty-Madera Ranchos, the host Hawks erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 10-1 win.
Ochoa, Escobedo and Cosper were the lone players to get a hit off of Liberty’s Quaid Cooper, who tossed a complete game with six strikeouts.

Davila, Vasquez pace Cardinals
2:35.70 that was set in a tri-meet at home against Minarets and Parlier High. Davila would later set a personal best in the 300 low hurdles in a time of 52.37 that placed her seventh overall.
The Cardinals’ Claudio Vasquez had a solid afternoon as the senior finished second in the 100 in 11.91 and was third in the 200 in 23.97. Vasquez ran the second leg of Orosi’s 4x100 meter relay team that was sixth in a time of 46.38.

Jonathan Padilla’s only race of the day turned in a great result as the senior posted a six-second victory in the 3,200 on his way to a seasons best time of 10 minutes, 13.34.
Diego Estrada finished third in the 800 in 2:05.91. Estrada led the race until the final 200 and held off teammate Danny Aurajo for third in a 2:05.91. Aurajo finished with a time of 2:016.13. The two runners also posted seasons best times while competing in the 400. Estrada finished third in 52.94 and Aurajo was seventh in 54.56.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Francisco Alburto, Angel Lopez, Michael Wilson and Devon Mendoza finished third in a time of 46.30, just ahead of Coalinga (46.33) and Farmersville (46.46). Wilson also was fifth in the 100 in 12.01.
Estevan Diaz took 3rd in the shot put with a throw of 45-8, a personal best mark and he was fifth in the discus at 136-06.
High-jumper, Victoria Tapia, tied for fourth with a height of 4-8.

Yasmine Villareal-Harris was one of two Dinuba High track and field athletes to claim first place in the Kings River Classic held Friday afternoon at the Immanuel Sports Complex.
Villareal Harris won a hotly-contested shot put event with a throw of 32-feet- 6 inches. Her mark was an inch ahead of runner-up Catie Blanken of Kings Christian while Graciela Tapia of Orange Cove was third at 32-3. Villareal-Harris also was second in the discus with a
