The Orosi High girls softball team picked up its first win of the season on Mar. 19 as the Cardinals defeated host Parlier, 12-2.
The Panthers scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first and Orosi tied the game after a run in the top of the third. The Cardinals followed up with a four run fourth and eventually put the game away with a six run seventh.
Orosi’s offense was kept in check in a 12-0 loss to Riverdale on Mar. 21 in Riverdale.

The Dinuba High softball team won two Central Sequoia League games defeating Immanuel and Kingsburg. The Emperors will take on Buchanan on Saturday before playing Exeter on Tuesday.

Despite a sluggish first three innings, the Dinuba High girls softball team woke up just in time as the Emperors knocked off Centennial-Bakersfield, 4-1, in a non- league game Monday in Bakersfield.
Dinuba captured its third win in a row and improves to 14-1 overall while the Golden Hawks fall to 5-8.
Coach Bryan Patterson said the team came out a little flat to start the game.
“The travel and not playing a game before that, we were a little bit flat,” Patterson said.
Down 1-0 heading into the top half of the fourth, Kayla Villareal hit a one-out single in the top half of the fourth for the Emperors first hit of the game.

Cardinals do well in Fowler

Orosi High’s track and field runner Claudio Vasquez had quite a day for the Cardinals in their West Sequoia League meet with Fowler and Orange Cove on Mar. 20 in Fowler.
Vasquez won the 100 (12.07) and 200 (24.52) meter events and teamed up with Ezequiel Zapien, Bryan Chavez and Aaron De la Cruz to win 4x100 (48.11) and closed out the meet running the anchor leg of the winning 4x400 meter relay team (4:03.26). Other relay members were Rafael Molina, Chris Martinez and Chavez.
De La Cruz placed first in the long jump with a mark of 17-feet-9 1/4 inches and Fernando Vargas was second at 17-5.
Alejandra Lopez was also a double winner in the 400 (1:09.68) and 800 (2:52.98) and Fabiola Rodriguez captured the 1,600 (6:24.29) and 3,200 (14:26.85).
The 4x400 meter relay team of Tudy Venegas, Mikala Montemayor, Yesenia Hernandez, and Lopez posted a winning time of 4:43.96.
Montemayor and Hernandez also went 1-2 in the 200 with times of 28.64 and 28.89.
Victoria Trevino won the triple jump (28-0) and Lesli Viveros won the long jump (13-8 1/2).
Mar. 15 at the Larry White Invitational in Hanford, Chris Huerta was second in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 16.87 and he finished 4th in the 300 hurdles in a time of 45.04. C. Vasquez placed 3rd in the 100 meters in 11.77 and he was 7th in the 200 in 24.36. Vasquez teamed up with E. Zapien, Ismael Perez and De La Cruz in the 4x100 relay as they finished 3rd in a very competitive race. The Cardinals

Track team continues to improve

Track and field athletes from Dinuba High had several solid performances during the Exeter Monarch Invitational held Friday in Exeter.
The meet featured 27 teams including all Central Sequoia League members.
Leading the way for the Emperors was Brian Ortuno Campbell, who placed third in the triple jump with a personal best of 41-feet-5 1⁄2 inches and fourth in the high jump 5-10.
The sprint medley relay team of Francisco Alburto, Andres Mendoza, Alonso Colunga and Danny Arajuo finished fourth in a time of 1 minutes, 42.25 seconds.

After Kingsburg went down in order in the top of the fifth, the Emperors’ Sid Chavarin drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the frame. Escobedo then singled to put runners on first and second. Chavarin scored on a ground out from Noah Cortez. With the bases loaded, Jesse Ortega was hit by a pitch that allowed Escobedo to tie the game at 4-all.
Cosper then delivered a bases- clearing triple to put Dinuba ahead 7-4. Cosper then stole home to push the lead to 8-4. Isaiah Ochoa singled and Chavarin got on base after being hit by a pitch. Escobedo’s single drove in the Emperors final run of a wild inning.
Escobedo finished the game with three hits.
Gonzalez went five innings with four strikeouts and Ridge Huckaby sealed the game pitching the final two innings with five strikeouts.
“Ridge has been really effective for us closing,” Morrelli said.

Jonathan Padilla was 5th in the 3,200 (10:22.18) and eighth in the 1,600 (4:42.38).
In the 110 high hurdles, Devon Mendoza was 12th in a time of 19.73 and Adrian Garcia was 13th in 19.77. Garcia also competed in the 300 intermediate hurdles and finished 16th in 46.47.
The highest individual placer for the girls was Damaris Lopez in the high jump, who was 10th at 4-6.
Brenda Mendoza, Kaylee Villasenor, Angela Cortez and Amanda Valdez finished the sprint medley relay 12th
overall in 2:08.61. Felicia Vela was 13th in the discus with a throw of 83-4.
In a CSL cluster meet held on Mar. 20 in Exeter, Estrada won the 800 in 2:09.69 and was 2nd in the 400 in 53.49 and was 2nd in the 1,600 (5:02.07) behind Padilla (4:59.02).
Ortuno Campbell won the triple jump (41-3 1⁄4) and Diaz took 2nd in the shot with a seasons best mark of 43-6.
Mendoza had a personal best of 19.43 in the hurdles which placed him 2nd.
In the girls discus, Yazmine Villareal Harris won the event with a throw of 105-5 and teammate Felicia Vela was 5th at 81-01 1/2. Both athletes competed in the shot and Villareal Harris was 2nd with a mark of 34-0, an inch behind

Corey Cosper produced his best game of the season with three hits and three runs batted in as the Dinuba High baseball team overcame an early deficit with a seven run fifth inning to defeat visiting Kingsburg, 9-5, Friday night in a Central Sequoia League game.
The Emperors ended a three-game losing streak in the process. With the victory, Dinuba improves to 5-7 this season and evens its record in league play with a 2-2 mark while the Vikings fall to 4-10 and 1-2 in CSL.
“It was a good win for us coming from behind,” said coach Brent Morrelli. “That was a huge triple by Corey.”
Kingsburg took a 1-0 lead on an error that allowed Jacob Torres to score in the first inning.
Dinuba countered with a run of its own. Josh Escobedo hit a one-out single and put himself in scoring position with a stolen base. With two outs, starting pitcher Justin Gonzalez helped his own cause with an RBI single up the middle to tie the game.
