A Dinuba man is safe after being involved in a collision on Friday that left a Selma man dead, said the California High Patrol.
According to officers, the Fresno Communications Center of the CHP received a call just after 6:30 p.m. regarding a three- car collision at the intersection of Avenue 376 and Road 44.
Officers say that the driver of a 2015 Kia was traveling westbound on Avenue 376 at an unknown speed, approaching the intersection of Road 44. At the same time, officers say a 2014 International truck, driven by a J. Rosario P. Macias, 56, of Lindsay, was traveling southbound on Road 44, approaching the intersection at 55 miles per hour. A 2006 Ford, driven by Alberto Pina Cruz, 44, of Dinuba, was traveling northbound on Road 44 and approaching the intersection at 45 miles per hour, say officers.
The intersection, according to officers, has stop signs on Avenue 376 but Road 44 is
uncontrolled in both directions. Officers believe the driver of the Kia, for unknown reasons, failed to stop at the intersection and entered directly in front of the International. Macias reportedly had no time to react, and though he applied his brakes, his vehicle hit the right side of the Kia, sending it in a southwestern direction before hitting a chain- link fence. The crash reportedly caused the International to travel in a southeastern direction, where it hit the left rear of Cruz’s vehicle.
The 19-year old driver of the Kia, whose name was not released, succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash, say officers. His passenger, Lorraine Maria Sanchez, 19, of Selma suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Kaweah Delta Medical Center for treatment.
Both Macias and Cruz reportedly did not suffer injuries as a result of the accident.
Officers say drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision.
