beat Kevin Fernandez of El Capitan 10-7.
“We expect a lot out of Julius,” said Wright. “We thought he would be in the finals. The Bullard wrestler was just better than us. Julius will continue to work hard and will be ready for the post season.”
Other Dinuba wrestlers to place at the tournament were Justin Miramontes, who placed 5th in the 170 lb weight division, and Javier Castro, who placed seventh in the 106 lb weight division.
Miramontes made it all the way to the semi-finals by defeating Samuel Maldonado of Sunnyside by pin in his first match and then beating Owen Kelly of Pioneer 10-1. He defeated Joseph Obrian of Temescal Canyon 4-0 to earn his spot in the semi-finals, where he then lost a close match to Zumudio 3-0, before beating Brandon Rocha in his final match to earn 5th place.
Said Wright of Miramontes, “He continues to get better everyday and is really progressing.”
Castro, Dinuba’s lightest
wrestler, won his first match on Friday by pinning Ignacio Ruiz of Golden West, but then lost his second match to Jonah Hernandez of Corcoran 9-4. He then defeated Daniel Ornalez of North High 17-6 to take seventh place.
“It was nice to get into his first action,” said Wright of Castro. “He wrestled well and will continue to improve.”
Winning the tournament was Turlock with 171.5 points. Bullard High was just behind them in second place with 170.5 points and El Capitan earned 153 points to take third place in the tournament.
Dinuba finished with 106 team points.
“We had a lot of young guys who fought hard,” said Wright. “I was very happy with the effort and fight they showed. We will continue to work and get better.”
Noah Cortez, one of Dinuba’s top wrestlers, did not wrestle in the tournament as he is still waiting to be cleared from an injury. According to Wright, the team is hoping to get him back soon.

Sentinel staff report
The Orosi girls varsity soccer team were not the only Lady Cardinal’s to enter Friday’s matchup with an undefeated record. The JV team also brought a perfect record to the table when they took on the Dinuba JV Lady Emperors.
That record fell on Friday as Dinuba’s JV team handed Orosi their first loss of the season.
Dinuba High Sophomore Luz Diaz first put the Emperors on the board, scoring a goal with less than five minutes left in regulation time of the first half.
The Lady Emps then carried a 1-0 lead deep into the second half. Then, in penalty time at the end of regulation, Dinuba freshman Yoselinne Gallo scored another goal with just seconds left in the game to give the Emperors a 2-0 victory.
