Veterans of Foreign Wars Community Breakfast is from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. July 7 at the American Legion Hall, 1502 O St. Cost is $6. Cub Scout Pack 322 and Boy Scout Pack 322 will assist. The VFW breakfast is usually the first Saturday of the month.

The Sanger branch of the Fresno County Library has a lot going on despite not being open. The Sanger Library Outdoor Fun shows are planned at 10 and 11:30 a.m. directly outside the library in the park. E&M Reptiles with snakes, lizards and more is June 22. Bubble Show with wild child adventures is June 29. And Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. the mobile or pop-up library services will be available. Sanger offers a junior lifeguard program again this year thanks to a
Wonderful Co. grant. Participants work to develop skills to meet lifeguard course requirements, such as in-water rescue and other basics. Sanger’s Movie Night in the Park continues this summer. CeCil Davis Celebrates His 100tH birtHDay
Cecil Davis celebrated his 100th birthday in Sanger on May 19, 2018, in the home of Marilyn and Charles Wallin, his daughter and son-in-law. Marilyn and Charles’ home was filled with family and friends, banners, balloons, party hats, and pictures of Cecil and his family through the years. The menu consisted of appetizers, a steak dinner (Cecil’s favorite din- ner), and birthday cake and ice cream. Guests had many kind words to say about Cecil. He is known for always being willing to help his family, friends, and

Cecil’s son, Dr. Dave Davis and his wife, Robin, from Shera- ton, CA, joined in the celebration with their children, Bob Da- vis and his wife Ayaka from Hayward; daughter, Kelly Davis, from Vallejo, and son, PJ Elbakri, from Los Angeles. Marilyn and Charles’ sons and their wives and children all attended: Mark and Laurie Wallin, Matt, Ashley, and Kate, from Irvine, CA; Chris and Katherine Wallin, Davis, Ryan, and Elle, from Austin, TX; and Brian and Cary Wallin, Kayli and Chase, from Laguna Niguel, CA. Cecil’s son-in-law, Bill Spain, Bill’s daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Tony Bullock, and their sons, Eric and Greg, all from Escondido, attended. Cecil’s sis- ter, Virginia Bane , 95 years old, her son Bruce Bane, and his daughter, Elizabeth Bane, all from Pollock Pines, came for the special celebration. Friends from Sanger and Fresno attended
the 100th birthday celebration.
Cecil was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on May 23,
1918. Cecil and his family moved to Fresno when he was two years old. Cecil attended schools in Fresno and gradu- ated from Poly Duncan Technical High School. He went to work for PG&E after high school. Cecil met Hattie, his future wife, at the Church of Christ in Fresno. Cecil and Hattie were married in 1939 and had three children: Sharon Davis Spain, deceased; Marilyn Davis Wallin of Sanger, and Dr. David Da- vis, of Sheraton. Cecil was in the Navy during WWII for two years. He and his family moved to Sanger in 1948. Hattie worked for Sanger Unified School District as a secretary at Washington Junior High School. All of Cecil’s children gradu- ated from Sanger High School. Cecil continued to work for PG&E until he retired after 30 years of service. Cecil then became an independent electrician for ten years. He retired then but has continued to help family and friends through the years.
