Host families are needed for four international students who will be attending Dinuba High School in the fall.
Non-profit World Link, Inc. secures families to host international high school students who earned a scholarship from the US Department of State. Only 900 applicants out of 40,000 are selected for the scholarship.
Through the organization, the students come to the US in mid-August and are here for 10 months. It provides leadership training for the students in public speaking and grant writing, for example.
Michelle Pattillo, local exchange coordinator, shares, “While the students are here on their exchange program, they are not only learning skills to better their communities back in their home countries, but our little communities are benefiting
greatly by their volunteering and community projects.”
For the students arriving in August, their host families need to be secured by July.
Jeren Tolegova, from Turkmenistan, said it best when she said, “People who I never knew, became my family for the rest of my life. Without them, my exchange would not be full of amazing memories.”
Hosting an international student can also benefit a host family. In addition to learning about other parts of the world, host families also add family members.
“It will change your life,” Ramon Herevia of Dinuba stated, “Hosting Jeren has been a life changing experience. She has enriched our family and is forever our daughter and my children’s older sister!” For more information, visit http://www.worldlinkinc. org and call Pattillo at 368-9470.
