The 59th Annual Exeter Lions Club East/West All-Star Baseball game will showcase the best high school baseball talent throughout Tulare and Kings counties.
The game will be on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Rawhide Stadium in Visalia.
West coach Mike Pankratz of Corcoran High said this is the fourth time he is participating in the all- star game and is looking forward to Saturday’s game.
“We have a bunch of good kids on our team,” Pankratz said. “None of the players on our team won a Valley championship this year. I told them they could end their high school career with a win. Hopefully some of them will get movitavated by that.”
The West team will have had a few practices under their belts heading into the game on Saturday.
“We’re not going to teach them what they already know,” Pankratz said. “Right now they are getting familiar with each other. Some of these guys haven’t played in a while. Our focus is to knock off the rust they have in them and have a lot of fun. Something I’m sure they will have.”

another shot to stay alive in the District 4 State tournament at Raisin City.
Dinuba suffered a 15-7 setback to Kerman late Tuesday afternoon.
“It was a rough game out there today,” said Guido.
With the game tied at 2-all in the third inning, Kerman scored five runs in the fourth and fifth innings to pull away for the win.
Izaak Gasca was the starting pitcher going the first three innings before giving way to Clayton Warkentin and Abraham Raya closed out the game, according to Guido.
The team was scheduled to play Kingsburg in an elimination game. Results of the game will be posted in next week’s edition of the Sentinel.
“There is some good competition out there,” Guido said. “We played good and it was a great experience, but hopefully we can get our ducks in a row and get a win.”
The week long tournament is being hosted by Easton-Caruthers.
Wrestler JJ Martinez has had quite a run this season racking up impressive wins at every level of competition.
When Martinez was notified he would get an invitation to represent the state as a member of the 2019 California USA Wrestling Schoolboy Duals Team, he gladly accepted.
“I was really exhilarated,” Martinez said.
The incoming Dinuba High freshman along with other outstanding wrestlers representing California will face some of the best wrestlers at the Schoolboy National Duals in Indianapolis.
“JJ is a tough, aggressive wrestler,” said coach Michael Wright. “He is one of the most dedicated wrestlers in our program and does everything it takes to win.”
Martinez went undefeated as a member of the Washington Intermediate School wrestling team and has dropped two matches at the Reno Worlds tournament, according to Wright.
Martinez’s success can be attributed to his parents support and having

worth it.
“It’s been a phenomenal run,” she
said. “We’re very, very excited for him.” Wright noted that JJ’s parents have played a huge role in their son’s success. “They will do whatever it takes to help their boys live out their dreams,” Wright said. “It is that family support that is the most important factor in any athlete’s
success.”
JJ said he will continue to wrestle and
play football, but for now his focus will be on the National duals.
“What I noticed throughout the year is not to overthink it,” he said. “I’m going to take it one match at a time.”

an older sibling, Javier, who is also a wrestling standout. The sport runs in the family as his uncle, Mariano Sanchez, was a Valley Champion while wrestling for Reedley High, according to Wright.
“JJ is very fortunate to have a brother, who is a year older and close to the same size so he always has a practice partner.”
Martinez also said he’s had an opportunity to practice with former DHS standout Daniel Long.
“He’s been cool with me and sees a lot of potential in me,” said Martinez. “He’s always been pushing me and teaching me. He taught me so many moves that has helped so much during the season.”
Wrestling at 250 pounds, JJ has tasted sweet success capturing USA State and Western State titles, before suffering two losses at Reno. Still, Martinez remained upbeat and optimistic.
“This year is way better than last year,” Martinez said. “I went undefeated for a little bit last year, but nowhere near now.”
JJ’s mother, Marianna Sanchez, has been to a lot of tournaments supporting her son said every commute to and from practice and matches has been well
