A Cutler gang member has been found guilty of murder for a 2015 homicide in Orosi, in which he served as the getaway driver, said a press release by the District Attorney of Tulare County.
Pedro Nunez, 24, of Cutler was found guilty last Monday, Sept. 24, in Department 6 of the Tulare County Superior Court. A jury found Nunez guilty of first- degree murder with the special circumstance that the crime was committed for the benefit of a street gang.
In addition, the verdict carries
special allegations involving the use of a gun and that the crime was an act of street terrorism. He was also convicted of criminal street gang conspiracy.
According the DA, on July 30, 2015, Nunez’s co-defendant, gang member Fernando Prado, shot and killed a 24-year old man in front of his home in Orosi. Nunez was arrested on Aug. 17 in connection to the crime.
Prado pleaded guilty to first- degree murder, gun and gang crimes on Aug. 10, 2017, and was sentenced to life in prison.
Nunez faces a possible sentence of life without the possibility of parole. He is

scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 22 in the Tulare County Superior Court.

• A fire was reported in the area of Avenue 416 and Road 92 at 9:52 a.m. A tree was reportedly on fire behind Fit Republic.
• A gray Diamondback bicycle was reported stolen in the 300 block of South L Street at 6:47 p.m.
• Shots fired were reported in the 1500 block of Olive Way at 9:15 p.m.
• A noise complaint for loud music, a third call, was reported in the 400 block of North L Street at 10:28 p.m.
• A noise complaint for loud music, second call, was reported in the 1500 block of Dallas Avenue at 11:30 p.m.
Sunday, September 23
• A noise complaint for loud subjects was reported in the 400 block of South L Street at 2:19 a.m.
• A noise complaint for loud music was reported in the 1300 block of East Magnolia Way at 6:00 a.m.
• A purse was reported stolen in the 200 block of South Palm Avenue at 3:26 p.m.
• A theft report was made in the 700 block of West El Monte Way at 4:16 p.m. The subject was reported as a white male wearing a brown flannel and blue jeans, near the garden section at Walmart.
• Reckless drivers were reported in the area of Davis and Michelle avenues at 5:36 p.m. Two to three vehicles were reportedly seen racing in the area.
• Shots fired were reported in the area of California Avenue and Park Way at 9:10 p.m. Four to five shots were reportedly heard, followed by the sound of a vehicle speeding off.
• A noise complaint for loud subjects was reported in the 500 block of North Crawford at 9:35 p.m.
• A noise complaint was reported in the area of Oak Avenue and Northridge Drive at 9:44 p.m. A loud party was reported in the area.
• A noise complaint for loud subjects was reported in the 1000 block of Northridge Drive at 10:39 p.m.

Evaristo Arreloa, a resident of Dinuba, died September 27, 2018. He was 96.
He was a farm laborer.
Services were held on Sunday, September 30 at St. Catherine’s Church in Dinuba.
Surviving family members include eight sons, four daughters, 38 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren.
Dopkins Funeral Chapel handled the arrangements.
Jose Ruben De Leon
Jose Ruben De Leon, a resident of Dinuba, died September 29, 2018. He was 88.
He was a farm laborer.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 8 at 10 a.m. and a service from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Sterling & Smith Funeral Home in Dinuba. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Smith Mountain Cemetery.
Surviving family members include a spouse, three daughters, three sisters, two grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Sterling & Smith Funeral is handling the arrangements.
Lorenzo Valdez Gonzalez
Lorenzo Valdez Gonzalez, a resident of Cutler, died September 16, 2018. He was 89.
He was a farm laborer.
Services were held on Thursday, September 20 at St. Mary’s Church in Cutler.
Surviving family mem- bers include two sons, three daughters, a sister, 24 grandchildren and 27 great- grandchildren.

Virginia R. Zarko
Virginia R. Zarko, a resi- dent of Dinuba, died Sep- tember 29, 2018. She was 82.
She was a postal carrier.
Funeral mass will be held on Friday, October 4 at 12 p.m. at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church.
Surviving family members include a son, three daugh- ters and two grandchildren

Monday, September 24
• Supicious subjects were reported on Ashley Avenue at 4:58 a.m. Two males with back packs were reportedly casing the area.
• Clothing was reported stolen in the 400 block of Whitney Avenue at 8:41 a.m.
• A commercial burglary was reported in the 100 block of East Tulare Street at 12:29 p.m. The incident was believed to have occurred overnight.
• An unwanted transient was reported in the 300 block of South Alta Avenue at 4:32 p.m.
• A fire was reported in the 500 block of Lynn Avenue at 4:33 p.m. Balloons had reportedly got stuck on a power line and were on fire.
• Vandalism was reported in the 600 block of Euclid Avenue at 5:36 p.m. A female reported, after being in a verbal argument with a male, that the male threw a rock at her vehicle.
• A pit bull reportedly attacked a male in the area of Lincoln Avenue and North Way at 6:56 p.m.
• A red BMX bicycle was reported stolen in the 500 block of Euclid Avenue at 8:17 p.m.
• Domestic violence was reported in the 1300 block of North Crawford Avenue at 11:00 p.m. A subject was reportedly hitting a female in a light gray minivan.
Tuesday, September 25
• An assault was reported in the 800 block of First Avenue at 2:21 a.m. A subject reportedly broke into a house and attempted to rape a female.
• A vehicle was burglarized in the 1600 block Laredo Avenue. It was reported at 8:09 a.m.
• Vandalism to a vehicle was reported in the 1400 block of Forth Worth Avenue at 8:43 a.m.
• A tresspasser was reported in the 500 block of Bloomingdale Way at 11:55 a.m. A subject was reportedly seen
tresspassing inside a vacant residence.
• A theft report was made in the 700 block of West El Monte Way at 2:43 p.m. The subject was reportedly wearing a gray shirt, khaki shorts and a baseball cap.
• Vandalism was reported in the 1400 block of East Akers Way at 4:26 p.m. A female reportedly broke the victim's car window with a crow bar and fled the scene in a black Honda.
• Juveniles were reportedly making a mess and refusing to leave in the 1700 block of East El Monte Way at 4:36 p.m.
• Domestic violence was reported at Centennial Park at 7:55 p.m. The victim reported that his girlfriend hit him in the face with a closed fist and fled the scene, possibly headed towards London.
• A noise complaint for a barking dog was made in the 300 block of West North Way at 11:19 p.m.
Wednesday, September 26
• An assault was reported in the 2000 block of Waldo Avenue at 9:16 a.m. The victim stated she was hit in the face with a shirt by her brother.
• A cat was reportedly stuck in a storm drain in the 500 block of South Alta Avenue at 1:12 p.m.
• Transients were reportedly leaving their property behind in the 100 block of West Mariposa Street. It was reported at 2:32 p.m.
• Someone went into the Police Department to report a male subject tried grabbing his daughter while she was walking home from school. It was reported at 3:39 p.m.
• An unwanted person was reported in the 200 block of South Alta Avenue at 6:29 p.m. The subject was reportedly not welcome at a Democratic Club event.
• A fire was reported in the 500 block of East Harvard Avenue at 8:14 p.m. A neighbor was reportedly burning trash in the back yard.
• Shots fired were reported in the 1500 block of East Olive Way at 11:58 p.m. Shots were
reportedly made towards a residence, breaking a window. No one was reportedly injured in the incident.
Thursday, September 27
• A noise complaint for loud music was reported in the 1100 block of Whittaker Way at 6:51 a.m.
• Animal Control responded to four calls in the morning of Sept. 27 for loose dogs.
• A check was reported stolen in the 42000 block of Road 80 at 10:03 a.m.
• A theft report was made in the Dinuba Police Department lobby for stolen solar panels at 4:38 p.m.
• A dog was reported stolen in the 600 block of East Harvard Avenue at 5:45 p.m.
• A noise complaint for loud music was made in the 1100 block of Aster Court at 7:05 p.m.
• A noise complaint for loud music was reported in the are of Lincoln and Bel Aire avenues at 8:17 p.m.
Friday, September 28
• Domestic violence was reported in the 1600 block of North Crawford Avenue at 8:10 p.m.
• Shots fired were reported in the area of Englehart and Nebraska avenues at 9:10 p.m. Approximately 15 consecutive shots were reportedly heard.
• A reckless driver was reported in the area of Road 72 and East El Monte Way at 10:15 p.m. A black GMC Yukon was reportedly swerving in and out of lanes.
Saturday, September 29
• Shots fired were reported in the 1400 block of South Greene Street at 12:02 a.m.
• A prowler was reported in the 700 block of Peachtree Avenue at 12:18 a.m. A subject was reportedly ringing a door bell at a residence and then entered a backyard.
• A noise complaint was made in the 300 block of South K Street at 12:43 a.m. Neighbors were reportedly singing Karaoke.
• A noise complaint for loud music was made was made in the 600 block of East Kamm Avenue at 2:38 a.m.

Virginia Zarko
Our beloved Mother Virginia Zarko, whom we a ectionately called Momma Bear passed
away on Saturday, September 29, 2018 a er a courageous ght against can-
cer. Her live’s work included teach- ing school, working as a nurse’s aide, and delivering mail to the citizens of
Orange Cove. Her love for animals (es- pecially dogs) blessed the community
daily as she carried large bags of dog food and treats in her mail Jeep. She fed over 50 stray dogs daily. e dogs
came to know the sound of her Jeep and they came running to receive their meal
from her loving hands. She was known to those strays home with her, so the farm she and Pete (our much loved Step Father) lived on always had an abundance of
animals. One time she rescued a tiny terrier puppy she found in an old tire along the road. e poor puppy had been attacked and had
a wounded eye that needed immediate medical attention. So Mom took that tiny pup to the vet and paid over $1000.00 to get its eye re- moved. at dog whom she named Mitzie became a member of the family for years. We love you Momma Bear! You are in our hearts forever. We will treasure your memory all the days of our lives. We’ll see you again when we get to heaven so we won’t say goodbye, just see you later. ank you for all you taught us growing up. You are the bravest person we have ever known. Your legacy of no nonsense and hard work lives on in your children. May we live the rest of our lives in ways that make you proud.
