In addition, Ruiz 4 Kids is again welcom- ing scholarship applications from current community college students.
The scholarship application deadline is March 9.
“The pursuit of higher education for some can feel like an unachievable dream,” said Kim Goble, Ruiz 4 Kids scholarship chairper- son.
“We look to help relieve some of the finan- cial stress with our scholarships so that stu- dents can place their focus where it is needed most – their education. Our annual Louis F. Ruiz Golf Invitational provides funds for our Ruiz 4 Kids Scholarship Program.”
In addition to the existing high school senior scholarship program, Ruiz 4 Kids is again offering a scholarship program specific to community college students who also are currently attending school within a 35-mile radius and who are planning to transfer to a 4-year university.

The scholarship program is available to select high schools in specific geographic areas where Ruiz Foods has manufacturing facilities: Dinuba/Tulare, California; Denison,
Texas, and Florence, South Carolina. According to Goble, Ruiz 4 Kids receives more than 600 scholarship applications each
year and review teams comprised of a couple dozen Ruiz Foods team members volunteer to make the selections.
In the past eight years, Ruiz 4 Kids has awarded more than $3 million in scholar- ships to hundreds of students committed to furthering their education.
High school applicants must have a 2.5 GPA or above to apply if they plan on attend- ing a two-year college or vocational institu- tion.
Those who will be attending a four-year college or university must have a GPA of 3.0 or more. Community college students must have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or above at the community college level.

Adults age 50 and better are invited to participate
in spring semester classes, lectures, field trips and hands-on activities as part of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Fresno State.
OLLI provides non-credit, university-level learning op- portunities for older adults on the Fresno State campus.
The curriculum includes five general lecture sessions, including a special lecture on April 11 by Dr. Bill Thomas, a Harvard educated physi- cian who was named by the Wall Street Journal as one of America’s top 10 innovators.
Thomas travels the nation leading efforts to educate society that later life is about growth and development, not
decline.
Thomas’ talk will chal-
lenge assumptions about aging.
The spring offering, spon- sored by the Central Valley Community Foundation, also includes 25 short courses, a book club, eight field trips and five hands-on experi- ences. A $40 membership
fee includes attendance at and parking for all general sessions, and eligibility to attend courses, field trips and hands-on experiences for nominal additional fees.
General session topics include retired Fresno Bee editor Jim Boren reflecting on a 40-plus year career in journalism, a talk by Central Valley Community Founda- tion CEO Ashley Swearingen on transforming a region and Fresno State profes- sors discussing the art and science of mathematics and exploring the word “utopia” as a verb.
Course offerings span a wide range of interests.
Spring semester courses include: former Fresno
Bee arts reporter Donald Munro discussing the local art scene, a former CIA agent discussing the Islamic world from seventh century to present and the music,
culture and architecture of Ireland featuring Irish folk band Pipe on the Hob.
Field trips will visit the World Ag Expo, Fresno Chaffee Zoo and Paso Robles for wine tasting.
Some of the hands-on experiences include cupcake decorating and coffee cup- ping classes.
OLLI connects the com- munity with curious fellow learners and engaging instructors, including Fresno State and other area faculty, authors and artists. There are no tests, grades or exams — just a chance to dive into learning and recapture the thrill of intellectual growth and camaraderie.
For more information about OLLI courses or to be- come a member, visit http:// www.fresnostate.edu/cge/olli or call (559) 278-0008.
