Daisy was a quick and diligent learner and Charlie enjoyed her company. Daisy and her husband, Lincoln had two daughters, Layla and Grace, and they lived in a spacious burrow next door to William Weasel and his family in Barns Wood. Lincoln worked part-time at the Hog Takeaway in Coopers Wood.
During their lunch break, Charlie mentioned Alfie’s chicken dilemma to Daisy.
‘Interesting. What if someone accidentally left your garden gate open? Surely the chickens would escape?’ she said with a grin.
‘It’s possible but the downside of that happening might be that the Westons examined the fencing. I’d rather they didn’t discover our gate,’ replied Charlie. ‘Mind you, I’m not overly keen on chickens, but there are times when we have to live and let live.’
‘Well, it looks as if the chickens are permanent residents. Poor Alfie will have to put up with them.’

Miss Goose, the owner and head teacher at Top Field Primary where the animals all went to school, had decided to close the school at the end of the summer term. She wanted to retire and spend more time with her family, and the wooden school building had begun to show signs of ageing and subsidence.
Barns Wood Academy had accepted her pupils and invited them to meet the teachers and spend a day looking around the school. On Wednesday, the last day at their old school, the young animals had cleared their desks, and
