collected their artwork, books and belongings. Charlie’s daughters were sad as they walked home together. They loved their little school; it was cosy and only a short walk from home. The academy was a much larger building with more pupils. When the rabbit girls arrived home, Grandma Tilly greeted them with a tray of cherry muffins.
‘Special treat for you. Having spent the entire weekend playing in the meadow,’ Tilly said, emphatically, ‘you didn’t have that chat with your dad. However, I understand how you feel; it’s a tricky situation, but it has to be done today, after dinner. I haven’t mentioned it to him because I want us to enjoy our meal together before you talk about Velvet.’
‘Shall we pretend that we don’t know anything about it as well, Grandma?’ asked Chloe.
‘No, you don’t have to do that. Just be the same as you always are.’
When Charlie arrived home he removed his muddy boots outside and scrubbed his hands in a water butt before entering the kitchen. ‘Hi, Mum. Something smells good.’
‘Have you washed your hands girls? Dinner’s on the table,’ called Tilly.
‘Hello girls,’ he smiled as they came in. ‘How was your last day at Top Field school?’
‘Fine,’ replied Jessica. ‘Dad, did you know that part of our school was falling down?’
‘Yes, I did. It’s due to be demolished shortly. Promise me you will stay away during the holiday.’
