Tilly Rabbit and Sadie Squirrel had scrubbed the old duck house inside and out. Whilst they had been doing it, one of the chickens had been watching them.
‘That one has a lot to say for herself,’ whispered Tilly, looking over her shoulder at the large bird.
‘Yes, I think she’s the boss. The others seem to be rather submissive towards her,’ said Sadie, scrubbing the front door.
‘Helloooo,’ a squeaky, grating voice cried. ‘Are we having new neighbours? Are you moving in? I do hope you won’t make too much noise. I’m a light sleeper, you see.’
Sadie waved to the bird. ‘Looks like we’re in for fireworks,’ she said to Tilly. ‘Especially if Leo still has his drum.’
