 16 CRUISING REPORTS
we, in spades! The Pilgrims limped into Dartmouth for repairs. We sat it out in Portland. First, we weathered Storm Ellen and when we hoped to move westwards, Storm Francis then put pay to the trip. However, Graham Tracey and the intrepid crew of Nyda pressed on and found a berth in Dartmouth with some of the RNVRYC rally. Representations to the Mayor were made and badges and burgees were exchanged. The Town Crier proclaimed the event with six persons carefully distanced. Graham pressed on to Plymouth where the Mayor, M400, and Town Crier posed for photographs to provide a fitting triumph of opportunity over adversity. Further photos recorded the presentation of certificates, and badges were given to Southampton’s Mayor, Councilor Sue Blatchford.
Of course, it was disappointing to miss the possibilities this offered and for all the effort to be so disappointingly rewarded. Over time we have become resigned to
the frustrations this pandemic has caused and this is now part of the story of 2020. However, much good has come through with communications and co-operations,
of connections and issues brought forward. The enthusiasm of those who go to sea in all sorts of boats is undiminished and the celebration of that is still very much in evidence across the maritime community. We offer our thanks for all the support and determination to those who helped us get even this far, notwithstanding the challenges faced from beginning to completion.
