with the Harbour Master met for lunch at Gins for a neighbourly chat and to examine areas of synergy. One area of agreement was that dinghy sailing could be closer linked and, to that end, BRSC’s Tim Robinson has been in touch and invited me to Needs Ore, to observe their racing with a view to some interclub participation. In the past, along with other RSYC members we were invited to participate in Bart’s Bash at BRSC, I
can vouch for an enthusiastic and warm welcome. Let us hope that 2021 will allow us to explore this further.
James Evans organised a wooden boat gathering at Buckler’s Hard in August and our classic wooden dinghies were invited.
It was a very relaxed informal event with some gorgeous craft, both motor and sailing
present. Four wooden dinghies from RSYC were made very welcome, probably because they reminded many of their roots in boating.
The other day an email arrived from Harbour Office entitled “You’re the stars of our new video!” (see Beaulieu River web site) and who should we see on the video but the club Gull being ably sailed near Buckler’s Hard by Max Raymond-Scott and his mother.Well done for being in the right place at the right time!
Well, I have started packing away the boats, I fetched Tina’s Scow and my Axe back to the garage for the winter, varnish and frost are poor bedfellows. We will continue with the club boats as time and lockdown permit.TheWanderer has a
new mainsail on order as the old one was becoming a liability with a very stretched luff.
Finally, with the help of Lisa in the office we intend to set up a GroupMe for dinghy sailing in a similar manner to the one
for Cruisers. The idea is to communicate amongst those with a dinghy sailing interest, we will then be able to agree informal meeting ups say on an evening or weekend, so no more excuses to be Billy no mates.
If you have an interest, please contact Lisa Topley our lovely Sailing Secretary.
Enough Ramblings. Have a safe winter, and a better 2021!
