Heading North...
Following an invitation to attend a Northern Region Allotment Association meeting in Durham, Tony Heeson, Liz Bunting and I set off up the A1 on Saturday 21st October.
As one of the NAS allotment sites, Roddymoor was in close proximity so it was decided to call in on the way up to Durham. On our arrival at the site we were made most welcome by the committee and had a tour. On site they had a substantial community building which is used on a weekly basis by the elderly members of the local community, and by many other groups on a less regular basis. Whilst discussing issues relating to the site, we had tea and beautiful home- made scones with home-made wild fruits jam and cream - yummee!
We then went on to the meeting, which at times became quite vocal. The vast majority of delegates approached us individually and expressed how much they appreciated that we had made the effort to attend to put forward the views of the NAS in reply to many of the issues raised.
Mike Brannigan, the new NAS Mentor for the Northern Region, introduced himself at the meeting. He has been connected with allotment management for many years and should be a great asset to the region.
As we left, many delegates were seeking closer contact with the NAS; they had assurances that this would be the case in the future.
