Space age nursery opens
The Grand Opening
I attended the grand opening of the Leeds City Councils multimillion pound state of the art nursery.
Wow! What an eye opener. This fully automated plant factory is something else.
The photos say it better than I can; it was just mind-blowing. I don’t often praise councils, but I must commend Leeds Council for their forward thinking. As all the smaller councils are closing their nurseries, they are now seeking such a source for supply of bedding plants etc, and here it is.
Conducted tours for groups are being offered, so if you are interested, search on the web for LCC Arium.a

Awards
Evening
In my (then) new role as President, I was asked if I would judge the plots at Ackworth’s Allotments in July this year. I duly performed the judging on a very hot Saturday and submitted printed-up marks shortly afterwards.
I was later invited to attend the awards evening in the Masons Arms, Ackworth, along with our NAS chairman, Tony Heeson, and our wives.
It was a cosy room and absolutely packed. After a few formalities the presentations were made by one of the four Parish Councillors in attendance
(it was great to see such support for allotments). The ‘best plot’ winner was not in attendance, but Danny Wong was and was awarded for both the ‘best
half plot’ and the ‘best newcomer’. His plot was nearly but not quite completely nished, and in all my years of judging
I have not seen such care, precision
or pristine conditions as in his planting beds. It was a real credit to him.
A very pleasant evening was had by all.
