CLARKE JJ (Tim) Major – Passed away suddenly on 2 Sep 14 near his home in Cornwall. The funeral will take place at St Uny’s Church, Lelant, St Ives, Cornwall on Thurs 18 Sep 14.
CLARKSON Ernest 22154965 – Passed away on 10 June 2014 following a short illness Served in Malaya during his army career. He was a Life Member of the KOYLI Regimental Association and an active member of the Sheffield Branch. Members of the branch attended the funeral with Standards.
COOK Edwina Mrs – Passed away on
10 May 14. She was the wife of Col Bill Cook (now deceased) and was known
to her friends as Eddie. Both were much loved members of the regiment. The funeral was held in Tunbridge Wells and was well attended. Our condolences to the family.
COOPER “Bert” Herbert – 14660674 – Bert died suddenly on 6 Oct 2013 aged
88. Bert saw service with KOYLI, East Lancs. East Yorkshire, South Lancs, 50th Div, 3rd INF and 53rd W Inf. Bert was an active member of the KOYLI Regimental Association, a member of the Sheffield Branch. He supported the Branch Secretary George Hodgson on many outings over
the years and was a frequent visitor to the Rifles Office with George. He was also
the President of the Normandy Veteran’s Association for 20 years. He was one of the survivors of the D Day landings on June 6 1944 and lost many comrades. The funeral service was held at Hutcliffe Wood and was attended by 200 mourners. He will be sadly missed by all Sheffield Branch members. Our condolences to all his family.
CRAVEN George Cpl - 23219358 – George enlisted at the Leeds Recruiting Office at the age of 17 and a half. He was posted to the LI Depot Pontefract for basic training, on completion he was posted to 1 LI.
He boxed for the battalion; he was a PTI and taught boxing to the boxing school. His first operational tour was to Kenya in 1955, where he was awarded the GSM with clasp during the Mau Mau rebellion. His second operational tour was in 1957 where he was deployed to Cyprus to fight the EOKA where he was awarded the GSM with clasp (Cyprus). He was then posted with the battalion to Hilden, Germany.
His final overseas deployment was to Aden. George was a member of the Aden Veterans’ Association and contributed
to the Association newsletter DOWE. He completed six years Regimental service and three years with the Colours. George was discharged in 1963 from Copthorne Barracks, Shrewsbury.
George passed away on the 2nd June 2014; the funeral took place on the 9th June at Rawdon Crematorium, Leeds.
He leaves a wife Pat and 2 daughters, Samantha and Maxine. Our condolences to his family.
CRESSWELL Geoffrey Lt Col – Died 2 Mar 14 aged 90.
DAWSON William Whittaker – Pte – 4695882 – Passed away 7 Jan 14. He Enlisted 20th June 1940 and served with 2nd Battalion, KOYLI in Burma. He was wounded at Billin and never rejoined the battalion. He was discharged on the 6 June 1946 and became a Life Member of the Regimental Association on the 6th May 1988 and was a member of the Doncaster Branch.
DIXON Geoffrey, 4693185 – Passed away in April 2014. He was a Life member of
the KOYLI Regimental Association and a member of the Wakefield Branch.
HEDGES, William Ronald (Ron),
22623075 – Passed away on 30 May 14. He was a Life member of the Wakefield Branch. He enlisted on 3 Jan 52 with 4 KOYLI and discharged in 1958. He also served with the KOYLI Army Cadet Force.
HUTTON J M C Major, MBE – Passed away peacefully at home on Monday 23 June 14. He was firstly commissioned into the Rifles Brigade, followed by the DCLI
and then the KOYI which was the regiment he spent the majority of his time with. For
3 years he was seconded to the Parachute Regiment during which time he completed scores of jumps. He passed out of Staff College in 1957 and during his army career he became very well-travelled, serving in numerous countries such as Cyprus, British Somaliland, Mogadisu, Egypt, Malay, Oman, Aden and a number of times in Germany. He served with the Sultan’s Armed Forces in Muscat where he was a DAA&QMG (Deputy Assistant Adjutant and Quartermaster General) finally completing his army service with a job in the MoD and was awarded the MBE in 1970. He was a regular attender
at the annual regimental lunch in London and the other guests were often regaled with stories from his army experiences. Following retirement he worked as General Secretary for the Pioneer Benefit Society
for 21 years. He also served as Church Warden and Treasurer in the Deverills and also Church Warden and fundraiser in Heytesbury. He was married to his wife Joanna for 48 years; they have two children, Nicola and Guy and 4 grandchildren, Freddie Mariah, Oliver and Florencia.
JUNIPER Stanley – 14238839 - Stan was a life member of the KOYLI Regimental Association and was a member of the Leeds Branch until his death in November 2013. He enlisted in 1942 and saw war service. He served with the 1st Battalion KOYLI and 1/4th Battalion KOYLI until his discharge in 1947.

Andy Lee Marsh who got some of
us up jigging! Eileen Richardson and Elaine Tagg aka 2 thirds of the “Three Degrees” did a sterling job keeping the drink flowing, so well done ladies. Our curry lunch was done courtesy of Mrs Dorothy Robinson and her trusty side- kick Lisa so well done ladies, we’ll see you again next year ok?! Thanks also to Malcolm “Wuff” Carswell for helping clear tables it was much appreciated. Well it all seemed to go down ok for our first attempt and if you’re all up for it next year, we’ll do it again!
