P. 59

On the Tuesday evening, we went to Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue and one of their Volunteers 'Rob' gave us a presentation on what they do and was then joined by Archie his Mountain Rescue Search dog. The cadets got to look around and climb in the vehicles.
My advice to any cadet is to sign up to this if you get the opportunity; you will make memories and friends that will last a lifetime and build up skills to take you forward in your future careers.
  SHOOTING FIRES UP
AT HARROGATE
By Flight Sergeant Dave Wells
Shooting has arrived at Harrogate Squadron, in the shape of an up
to six lane indoor air rifle range.
It has the capacity of three or six lanes at 5.5 metres in the main hall or garage, or four lanes at 10 metres in the main hall. The range was brought into use for the first time in January, where it was the venue for the Sector 4 air rifle competition.
FS Wells said “it is the culmination of about 8 years from the first idea of having a two-lane range in our old building, to completion of this range in our new building. There were many hold ups along the way, through no fault of anyone, the worst being Covid.
I would like to thank our CivCom for backing and supporting this venture, and to Wing CivCom who
also helped finance the facility”.
In addition to Sqn shooting, the range will also be used for Sector and Wing events, together with being able to offer shooting to the ACF and Sea Cadets.
FS Wells also added “I am hoping we can offer shooting to the other cadet forces in the town, and later in the year run a tri-service cadet shooting competition”.
The result of the Sector 4 air rifle competition was that 110 (City of York) Squadron shot into First place with a score of 21.00. In Second place was 58 (Harrogate) Squadron with 21.43, Third was 886 (Ripon) Squadron on 21.68 and Fourth, was 2434 (Church Fenton) Squadron at 24.80. The competition was decided by 4 groups of 5 shots by each firer, then the average grouping size was worked out, and the smallest average size was the winner.
