Relaxing hobby
Emma is the creator and owner of a lovely little felt sewing business – Emma’s hearts and crafts.
She started hand sewing
nine years ago when her little
boy was born. As a mum with
a baby who didn’t ever sleep
Emma needed to stay alert
and awake and sewing was her
lifeline. Emma would wake for
hours in the night trying to settle her boy and when she was calm sewing, her boy would calm down and sleep.
That then became the start of her business. Emma has gone on to enjoy years of felt and fabric creations, from Christmas, Easter
and autumn designs to personalised crafts and bespoke makes. In the past she’s hosted workshops for women’s groups and children and she hopes to expand that at some point to welcome more people to take up hand sewing.
Emma mainly sells items on Facebook but has also had many local stalls over the years that have increased her confidence and welcomed
so many new customers. The newly reinstated Thrapston indoor market that runs on the first Saturday of every month is a great place to come
and see what new crafts she has to offer.
She also designed crafts in collaboration with
Hilly Horton Home on Thrapston High Street and has been happily making pheasants, hares and labradors exclusively for Hilly for many years now.
Her hope is that more people take up sewing as a relaxing creative art and an aid to healthy mental wellbeing. It has certainly helped Emma over the years and she has no plans in stopping. Her ideas book is always overflowing.
Why not get crafty yourself and have a go at making the above owl from felt, ribbon, fabric and cotton wool!
