CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
I hope that many of you were able to take some holiday time this summer whether
it be at home, a staycation or even an overseas trip taking time for yourselves
to switch off, unwind and recharge. Life is precious and unpredictable, and we should take every opportunity to enjoy it.
September represents a new start for so many, children starting nursery, primary and secondary schools and of course students going off to university for the first time. Nervous and exciting times for pupils, parents, and teachers. Good luck to you all as you settle in to a new academic year, a year of renewed hope and opportunities.
My chosen charity is the Haemophilia Society and on Saturday 17th September they are holding a Big Red Bridge walk. The walk is 14km and my family and I will walk along the River Thames and across eight of its iconic bridges: Westminster, Hungerford, Waterloo, Blackfriars, Millennium, Southwark, London Bridge and Tower Bridge. The event is held to raise funds to support more than 36,000 men, women and children in the UK who have a diagnosed bleeding disorder. If you would like to donate you can donate online www. justgiving.com/fundraising/ths-craig or there is a sponsorship form in Thrapston Town Council offices.
I had the pleasure of attending the
Grand Opening of The Chester House Estate on 20th July 2022. The Estate was opened by HRH the Princess Royal and was attended by volunteers, funding partners and organisations that have helped to
build a legacy at the site. Now the site of Northamptonshire Archaeological Resource Centre, the site is steeped in history as it was once part of a roman settlement. Work
continues on site building new pedestrian bridges that will allow visitors to walk from nearby Rushden Lakes and from further afield. It has great facilities for families with play areas, café and a farm shop selling local milk – I will strongly recommend a visit.
We also welcomed the Lord Lieutenant
of Northamptonshire, the High Sheriff
and other civic guests for my Civic Service which was held on Sunday 31st July. It was great to welcome so many to Thrapston after Covid put a hiatus on services for the last two years. I would like to thank Rev. Nolan Robson for welcoming us back to the church and supporting the town with this event,
as well as June Davy for her support and organising with the event.
I look forward to seeing many of you
at our Party in the Park on Saturday 10th September – let’s hope for a dry sunny day! Kind regards, Councillor Craig Wheeler
