WO1 (RSM) Matthew Eade RAVC
WO1 (RSM) Eade, enlisted into the British Army in January 2004, following successful completion of a Bachelor of Arts in Business and Hospitality Management (Portsmouth University). On completion of his Basic Training in July 2004 (ATR Winchester), he was posted to 101 Military Working Dog Support Unit (MWDSU). Within this posting, he completed a Class 1 Dog Trainer course, which allowed him to handle and train various Military Working Dogs (MWD) and provide guidance to junior dog handlers. Having proved himself to be an asset during this posting, Eade was selected
for specialist dog courses, notably Vehicle Search (VS) and Arms & Explosives Search (AES) handler. On completion, he was deployed
on three operational tours of Op TELIC, within the operational roles of VS & AES.
Serving much of his career within RAVC posts attached to external locations; in 2008, he was posted to a MAB unit as a Specialist Search dog handler and training SME. Within this role, he visited vendors, where he was responsible for the procurement, training, operational testing and handling of various new Specialist MWD dog capabilities. In the years that
subsequently promoted to SSgt
and assumed the role of Chief Trainer at another MAB unit. Within this senior role, he continuously deployed within an advisory
role for the deployment of high assurance MWDs, being used within Operational Theatres.
MWD employment. Acting as the UK Defence Representative for MWDs, he participated in multi- agency working groups (CONTEST), discussing high-level assurance and future MWD capabilities.
In 2019, he was promoted to WO2 and assumed the role of Squadron Sergeant Major (SSM) of 104 Sqn, 1st MWD Regt. Thereafter, he was moved into a regimental role as Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant (RQMS) Main, before his promotion to WO1. On promotion, he assumed the role of Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) at the DATR. Within this position, he has embraced the role to date and looks forward to the opportunities and challenges that this prestigious position brings.
He lives with his wife Hollie and 2-year-old daughter Florence in Chichester, West Sussex. He has
a retired MWD, called Will, who joined his family two years ago and is much loved. Within his personal time, he enjoys cross-country running, snowboarding and a passion for motorbikes.

After four years,
he was posted to Brunei, where
he completed the Jungle Warfare Instructor course (JWIC) in 2012. This qualification enabled him to take post as the British Army’s Infantry’s Jungle Warfare Wing Tracker handler in Brunei for 2 years; a role that is a critical part of all Jungle Warfare courses.
Eade left Brunei on promotion to Sergeant and was posted to Germany as a Troop Sergeant. During this time he was
In 2018 he was posted
to Army HQ (Andover) as a Staff Assistant. Within this role, he was the British Army’s SME for the
writing of Defence Performance and Certification Standards (JSP 960). Additionally, he led with the development of new software, which was utilised to manage MWDs and personnel, within a live commander’s dashboard. During this posting, he utilised Agile Project Management (APM) methodologies, to develop the new software. He served as the UK NATO representative for the review of NATO Standards for
