Working Dog Coffee
by Ex RAVC Warrant Officer Craig Ide
Working Dog Coffee was born from the need
to carry out the task required; upon leaving the Army after 24 years’ service, six of those were spent with 2nd Battalion the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment (2 PWRR), the rest as a Handler/Trainer with the RAVC.
I had always liked coffee (despite
a brief period of tea drinking) and four years ago, I toyed with the idea of starting a coffee company. So, I came up with the name ‘Working Dog Coffee’ and the idea to relate the coffees with a classification of MWD and to match to one of the MWDs that I had the pleasure of handling on Operations. They are: Bite, dedicated to MWD Reese whom I trained and handled on Op Herrick and Search, dedicated to Max who was an Arms Explosive Search MWD
that I handled on Op Telic. There is also Neutered you can probably guess the type of coffee!
In September 2020 I was lucky enough to take part in the Veteran Tycoon Enterprise Program which is run in partnership
with Peter Jones
Foundation, Sage
and Ex Forces.
They gave me
the support and
guidance to get me
in full swing and a
risk-free chance to
actually see if my
idea could become a reality. When that ended, I realised that there might be something more to this and decided to carry on and expand to where I am today 18 months later. Granted I’m not going to take over the coffee market but one thing I
do know is that the drive, determination, and the desire to get the job done to the
best of my ability is what will drive me to grow ‘Working
Dog Coffee’.
