Wildlife and Nature Protection Society of Sri Lanka (WNPS)
The leopard is the apex mammalian predator and the largest wild cat in the Sri Lankan wildernesses. Reports indicate that 109 leopards died during the past 12 years in Sri Lanka. For the last seven months six leopards have died but there may be more than
that unofficially. Hence leopard rescue operations are vital in the conservation field. But due to lack of proper equipment for rescue operations most of rescues have failed in the recent past. As an example, a recent leopard death was recorded in August when a 10 months old Sub Adult was killed by a snaring incident in Hatton and due to improper rescue operations, this leopard died.
AWAMO donated 500 AUD to WNPS to support to get the equipment for the leopard rescue operations. As a start we have donated a large bowl cutter, a pair of metal gloves and a climbing harness. Thank you AWAMO for the trusting WNPs which is third oldest conservation organization in the world and first in Sri Lanka which has 128 years of history in conservation and pioneers in conservation field in Sri Lanka. As WNPS we would like to express our gratitude to AWAMO towards support in wildlife conservation.
