DURHAM ARMY CADETS ASSIST KENYAN COMMUNITY PROJECT
Durham Army Cadet’s Colour Sergeant Harvey Sidebottom and Staff Sergeant Niall Crammond jetted off to Kenya to take part in a a nine-day community project in a Kenyan school. The exciting opportunity named Exercise Kenyan Cub saw the Durham youngsters start up a football academy and work in a local school to get vital water to Kenyan children.
The cadets were lucky enough to be selected from over 40,000 Army Cadets
across the United Kingdom. The team also played games of football against local teams and embarked on a safari to assist with the conservation of animals. Exercise Kenya Cub was an outstanding opportunity that allowed the cadets to experience Kenyan culture, assist with the start-up of a football academy, take part in a local school project, experience a Safari, games drives and participate in rafting and climbing.

Cadet Colour Sergeant Nicholas Robinson who is 17 years old from Blackhill Consett is the winner of Durham Constabulary’s Young Heroes Awards. Nick has been an Army Cadet for 5 years in Consett. In the space
of five months, Nick has stopped not once but three times to help someone in distress, probably saving a life on the third occasion. This is astonishing given that he is only 17 years old!

The world class Durham ACF Band & Bugles played an outstanding ‘Sounding Retreat’ at the historic venue and the residents were over- whelmed by the standard in performing and musical ability. They were even able to meet the 2019 Britain’s Got Talent winner and veteran Colin Thackery who observed the band’s performance and even posed for a photograph. As the display concluded, Sergeant Instructor (SI) Kyle Davison, 19 from Gateshead conducted the finale superbly maintaining the high standards of the Band & Bugles.
