MAJOR JOHN HOWARD SERVICE
For several years now the Oxford Branch of the RGJ Association have held a service at the graveside of Major John Howard in St Mary’s Church Clifton Hampden, Oxfordshire. This is to honour the “Coup de Main’’ on Pegasus Bridge June 6th 1944 by D Coy,
The Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry being the first Allied troops to land in Normandy on D-Day.
This year they were joined by Major Howard’s daughter, Penny Bates who is usually in Normandy at this time. Last Post and Reveille were sounded by Bugle Major Phil King, Senior Bugle Major Army Cadet Music and Rifleman James Howard, Waterloo Band and Bugles, 7 RIFLES and the two minutes silence observed.

Play for carers
For 10 weeks the Cadets of Berkshire ACF performed “playforcarers” to support care workers and the NHS. A wide variety of musical interludes were performed, which included: Somewhere over the Rainbow, Chariots of Fire, Pirates of the Caribbean, Phantom of the Opera and My Heart Will Go On. In all, 16 Cadets and Adult Volunteers turned out in uniform every Thursday to play. Cdt LCpl Robbie Dean from Newbury Detachment RIFLES is seen playing the Side Drum.
VE DAY CELEBRATIONS
The 75th Anniversary of VE day cele- bration plans were another casualty of Covid-19 but some veterans of The Rifles and RGBW Association managed to mark the day in their own way.

SI Lee Hutchinson jumped out of a plane to raise funds for RobsARTT who help fight teenage cancers. She raised a massive £5000!
