                                 ROTARY CLUB
Charitable fundraising
The Rotary Club has been active in supporting the local foodbanks for a number of years. We have been making regular financial donations to help the purchase of items that they need.
We were fortunate to have two representatives attend a recent meeting, and to have an update on the very valuable work that the foodbanks are doing. The foodbanks now support several hundred people every week, and the aim
is to try to help on a temporary basis. The organisation running the foodbanks now offers a range of other services, which people may not be aware of, including borrow / hire of travel cots, prams and pushchairs, wheelchair short hire, provision of children’s coats and shoes, and school uniforms to those in need, upon application, and through an appointment process. Help can also be given with the filling of forms, provide access for wi-fi for job hunting, application completion, or research.
Members from the club helped at the first
of this season’s Sailability sessions at Grafham Water. They help sailors with disabilities by rigging boats, assisting people to get into the boats and launching and retrieving them. Along with members from other Rotary clubs, the club will be continuing to support sessions during the rest of the season.
Readers are probably aware of the
fantastic work done by Lindsey Burch, Cindy McCormack and the many people who support the Thrapston Community Rotary Shoebox Appeal. Members had an update at a recent meeting, and would encourage you to support this very worthwhile activity. Like the Rotary Club they will be represented at the Charter Fair.
     RECYCLING CANDLES!
Have you ever wondered what to do
with the casing and last section of wax remaining when a candle as burnt out? The Recycled Candle Company can help keep candles out of landfill, where it can take up to 1000 years to decompose.
The Recycled Candle Company accept donations of any type of candles. Any colour, scent, size and in all types of containers including glass. The process couldn’t be easier with all elements including waste matches, wicks and casings handled during the recycling process. The company then handcrafts new candles made entirely from the recycled wax, which are made available on their online shop.
If you would like to find out more about the process or set up an ongoing collection visit their website: www.therecycledcandlecompany.co.uk
