10 Fleet Reports
Topper Racing
Issy Wood & Freddie Reynolds have, during September/October, participated in a number of ITCA South West Area events at the following venues: Paignton Sailing Club, Starcross Yacht Club and Brixham Yacht Club.
These events have provided invaluable opportunities for them to test themselves against very experienced Topper Squad and Zone sailors. The conditions at all of these events were challenging, exposing them to a variety of courses, big seas, and generally strong winds. The last event at Brixham was sailed in Torbay with winds over 20 knots. Given their relative
inexperience of these sort of events, both performed creditably well beating and surprising a number of more experienced Topper regulars. Both have benefited considerably from the experience and would like to thank SYC for the support received in allowing the use of the club Toppers. In addition, we would like to thank Topper International for loaning the
club some fantastic race Toppers over the Summer.
This participation has increased their awareness of the demands of sailing in competitive fleets, along with making new friends, and potential visits of the Topper Class to Salcombe in 2020.
