The following morning the crew had to be up early to get the boat spick and span for the arrival of a royal visitor. By happy coincidence the end of their week was the day of a long-planned visit to the Trust by HRH The Princess Royal. The Princess Royal, a keen sailor herself, supports a number of maritime charities and
was visiting the Trust to unveil
a plaque to commemorate the
addition of Johanna Lucretia to
the Trust’s fleet. She spent time
on board all the boats, was
introduced to all the SYC Cadets
and showed great interest in the
workings of these traditional
craft.
Back to Isla for a final word:
I highly recommend this trip to anyone.
I would have
no hesitation at
all to repeat the experience all over again. None of us
will ever forget
the whole week and it will be treasured in our childhood memories forever.

and wandered around the town. When we returned, we still could not set sail so we decided to get our swim gear on and take a dip! It was incredibly fun jumping off the bow spit and swinging from a rope swing off the boat table into the rather chilly water. After drying off the fog had lifted and we sailed off to Fowey. It was curry for supper and off to bed.
The next day after breakfast we went ashore for showers and then set sail to Truro. On our way we managed to hoist all the sails at once and the speed was unforgettable.
The next morning, we began our sail into Falmouth however we weren’t planning to do it all in daylight. It was perfect conditions to do a night sail into Falmouth and we
were all very keen to try this. So, we sailed to a bay and stopped for dinner and then
at about 8:30pm we set off on our night
sail. Even though this is a difficult challenge we were all competent enough to go through with the plan. After watching out for upcoming buoys and steering the correct path towards Falmouth we made it in safely in about 4 hours. As expected, we were all truly exhausted but there were no regrets from anyone for partaking in this experience.
The following morning, we had a much- needed lie-in before heading ashore to explore Falmouth. At about midday we clambered back onto Johanna and set up the boat to sail back to Plymouth. It was a long sail home, however on the way
we encountered an incredible number of frolicking dolphins playing in the crashing waves around the bow. This was definitely a highlight for everyone aboard. Finally, at about 9:30pm we arrived back in Plymouth.
