THIS WAS A HUGE SUCCESS WITH A LARGE NUMBER OF CADETS GAINING “STAGE” APPROVAL.
fun, this is what we build cadets around. We also introduced the opportunity for
cadets to gain” RYA Stage accreditations” across the cadet season. This was a huge success with a large number of cadets gaining “stage” approval. It also enabled more structure to be put into the sessions without the pressure of directly aiming for a qualification, which most importantly meant we could keep the element of fun that is so essential to the SYC Cadet ethos.
Cadet racing (Junior Handicap) has been a real success this year, Issy Wood, in her Topper, was the person to beat and it was a rare occurrence that saw her
beaten. Issy took the Sailing Club series and Summer series overall victories with some commanding performances. Freddie Reynolds is a name to watch out for,
his very rapid improvement over his first season of racing saw him start to challenge Issy and provided some much-needed competition for her. The Autumn series saw the emergence of Edward Alexander in his RS Terra who towards the end of
the series proved difficult to beat and took the overall series victory. Louis Tollins and Dom Holt-Wilson both graduated mid- season form the Junior Handicap to the Medium Handicap in their shiny new Lasers
following a well-trodden path of previous cadets and keeping the success of cadets becoming competent racers very much alive.
Thanks to the parents who help out each week and to Jayne for overseeing Cadets, see you next year.
