Oundle lives…
DECLAN
MORGAN
Neighbourhood Constable
Oundle Neighbourhood Constable, Declan
Morgan, is very passionate about keeping the
Oundle area safe. He really loves his work…
When was Northamptonshire Police
established? Northamptonshire Police was
formed on 1st April 1966 and prior to that
it was Northamptonshire Constabulary and
Northampton and County Constabulary
between 1840-1966. I believe that Oundle Police
station was opened on 2nd March 1978 and
remains in use today! Many residents
are surprised to hear that Police Offi cers
and PCSO’s still work out of here.
What made you choose Oundle?
Prior to coming to Oundle I was a
response offi cer based in Kettering
covering both Kettering and Corby
for six years. Typically I would be called out
to everything from low level crime to serious
incidents. I wanted a challenge in a new role
and saw a position open up in Oundle on the
Neighbourhood Policing Team and thought I
would give it ago. I have visited Oundle many
time before I started working here and thought
I do enjoy the
‘old school
bobby on the
beat’
this could be a nice area to work in.
Plans to move? So far, I am very happy with
where I am. I have no plans to move on to
another department or look at promotions as
my grass is pretty green here and I thoroughly
enjoy working in Oundle.
Any colleagues or do you go it alone? I am
based on the Neighbourhood Policing Team and
it is only myself and PCSO Arthur Pereira who
covers from Oundle up towards Easton-On-
Th e-Hill and all the villages inbetween.
However, the local response team and
the operations team which include
roads policing, fi rearms and dog
handlers cover the same area so there
are always offi cers around should they
be required. Arthur and I are both very
passionate about making Oundle and our other
villages a safe place to live and visit. We are also
very keen to show a visible presence to ensure
public confi dence and trust. As part of the
Neighbourhood Policing Team I have colleagues
that cover the East Northamptonshire area and
they are based in both Th rapston and Rushden.
